Tires are Continental DWS Extreme contact with 26,000 miles in good condition with at least half of wearing remaining. Was driving on freeway at 65-70 mph when tire suddenly just "disintegrated." My dealership tech said the likely cause was due to corrosion of the tire pressure sensor.

When we got the car across 3 lanes of heavy traffic and onto the shoulder, the tire appeared shredded almost completely around the circumference, about 1 1/2 inches from the rim. A large pile of crumbles of rubber was behind the wheel, and the tire pressure sensor in the pile.

This was a very dangerous blowout, and we were extremely fortunate not to have had a wreck.
