This is my first Nissan, and being a Rogue, it's supposed to be good in winter, but I'm really not impressed. To get any heat, the heat dial has to be set to max, anything less and it blows cold or cool air. The dealership suggested to get the engine coolant flushed, as it had never been done. So, I paid to have the coolant replaced. This had no effect on the problem.

The engine gets to normal heated temperatures according to the gauge on the dash, and it will blow hot air, but when put on the defrost with the floor, it seems to be mixing too much with the A/C and not enough with the heater coils. Any movement of the temperature setting up from MAX heat, and it reduces the air blowing to cool air, no more heat. The heat is either on or off, no happy medium. This seems to be a common problem for this model year and I can only hope Nissan Canada will consider this as a warranty issue and take care of it like they should.

This is my first Nissan, and will likely be the last one I ever buy. I've owned Toyota's and Mazda's over the years, and have never encountered such a problem.

Jason.

It's a great vehicle. I have been experiencing intermittent a/c and heat failure. Blower seems to lack air movement. Removed cabin air filter (not dirty) and air flow was slightly better. Last few days no heat. Have appointment with Waterloo Nissan as not so satisfied with the service at Guelph Nissan. Will post how I make out. I think it's electrical control as both A/C and heat stop functioning.

I just purchased a 2014 Nissan Rogue SL in May 2015. It was the dealership's loaner so it only had 1500 miles on it. I am noticing that the heater is not working as well as I think it should. Since it is Spring, the temperature has not been really cold but there have been some 50 degree mornings. I have used the heater a few times and have been very disappointed in the heat it is putting it out. To really get warm it has to be turned all the way up to 90 degrees! When I have it set at 80 degrees you would think it would be putting out warm air, but it's barely warm even at that temperature.

I have read several complaints about this issue and I am very concerned about it. If it's not heating up good when it's 50 degrees outside, I'm wondering how bad it is going to be in the Winter when it is really cold. I mentioned this to the dealership and they did not seem concerned about it. I am going to call them and make an appt to have it looked at, but I am not feeling very confident that they can do anything about it.

The heated seats don't work great either. They heat up and then just stop working and cool down before heating up again. I'm very disappointed about this because I really do like the car. I love the way it drives and how quiet it is. But if the heater is going to be an issue, I will get rid of it and get something else -- and it won't be a Nissan!

My 2014 Nissan Rogue will not consistently blow warm air at any temperature setting, especially on the passenger side controls. It may start as warm air and quickly reduces to cold air. My wife has to have a blanket on her lap. My dealer will not do anything, they claim it is within operating parameters. If I set the temperature to 90 degrees then it should blow 90 degree air, not cold air.

I've owned this Rogue since July 2014. This is the second time the blower has blown only ice cold air. Thankfully, the first time was in the fall and it wasn't too big of an issue. The second time was at the end of Feb when Ontario just saw it's coldest Feb on record and it would not stop blowing freezing cold air and it was always blowing at my face. I tried, obviously, changing from face to feet to a mix to defrost to defrost and feet but nothing could stop it. I tried shutting the car off and nothing would work. After I let it run in a parking lot for 45 minutes, I gave up and went inside. I know exactly what Nissan is going to say when I take it in, "we can't duplicate the issue. sorry."

As it is now, the air that is being blown is warm at best. My wife's 2007 Toyota Carolla blows so much hot air that I need to open the windows in the middle of winter. My Rogue keeps my new born daughter nice and cold in the back seat in the middle of winter. Absolutely terrible product. I'm looking on trading it in at another dealership and cut my loses. I used to be a huge fan of Nissan until this.

Update from Mar 7, 2015: I was just told by my local Nissan dealership that the cold air or lack of really hot air is a known problem and they are ordering a new control unit. I will update once I take it in.

Bought this car in April 2014 so never really used the heater until late Nov 2014. Had no problems with the AC and loved everything about this car until Winter hit. IMO the heating system in this car is simply not sufficient. If it ever gets below -5 degrees Celcius (yes, that seems to be the magic temperature outside), this car simply cannot heat up. And that's a problem when you live in Ontario and it's consistently colder than that 2-3 months of the year. The car takes forever to heat to max ability (like 45 minutes!) and even at max it's like lukewarm at best. And the foot vents are useless. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times with no resolution yet...they just keep blowing the air out of the rad lines (did nothing). I am calling again this week and if it still isn't fixed I'm contacting HQ. Sick of it.

Update from Feb 28, 2015: So I have taken the car into the dealer now 4 times. To recap, they have replaced the thermostat, blew the air out of the cooling system twice, and the fourth time just tested the heat coming out of the vents, which they deem to be appropriate and blew me off refusing to discuss further. I told them I want it documented that I am not satisfied and will be following up. So to document what I was experiencing, I bought a thermometer and put it in the car. I alternated placing it in the middle back seat (next to my 1 year oldès car seat) and the front middle console to test temperatures. After one week, the back seat never seems to warm up past 12 degrees C even after the car has been running for 45 minutes. The front will eventually get to about 17 degrees max heat after the same running time. On a cold day of -18 C outside (common for the past 2 months here in Ontario), that is not good enough.

So before going to the dealerès Service Manager, I decided to take it for a 2nd opinion. I brought it to my old mechanic, whom I trust, when I had my old 16 year old Corolla previously. Told them what the dealer already looked at. He took it for a quick spin around the block (something the dealer never bothered to do) and right away agreed there was an issue just by viewing the fluctuating temperature guage for the engine. He flushed the heater core...I had asked the dealer previously if this could be a heater core issue and they never addressed it. Well, granted it has only been 2 days, but the problem is gone. My mechanic said the heater core couldève become gunked up during manufacturing or the core they use could just be designed with really small channels that get build up easily. He said that if the problem comes back after a couple weeks they can flush it again but that it really should not be an issue with a new car.

So I will wait a couple weeks and see what happens. If it remains fixed, I am going back to the dealer with my bill and telling them to write me a cheque (since it's under warranty and I shouldn't have had to go elsewhere and pay out of pocket $140). I would half expect them to tell me I've violated the warranty by going elsewhere but since they had 4 chances and didn't fix anything, I will go off the rails if they even attempt it. Will update in a couple weeks. I would suggest trying to have the heater core flushed, however, if that hasn't been done.

I got this car in April, 2014. Noticed immediately that the front dash vents did not blow the same temperature air when the heater was engaged: luke warm on driver's side, cool on passenger side. Also, it felt like cold air conditioned air was blowing when the a/c was turned off. I took the car in to the local dealer in May, 2014 and was told that nothing was wrong. It is now November, getting pretty cold out and in order to get enough heat to warm the car sufficiently I have to crank the heat dial all the way. If not, the air blowing out is just barely warm, particularly when the outside temperature is below freezing. Also, when choosing to have the warm air blow at your feet, no air comes out at your feet but does blow through the front defroster. I think there is something very wrong with the heating and a/c system, but the dealer told me otherwise. I am taking the car into the dealer again during the coming week to try and get them to find a solution and not simply blow me off. I will post an update after that.

Update from Feb 12, 2015: Since my initial post in November I have been back to the dealer twice. The first time they admitted that the air flow did appear to be insufficient and determined it was due to an "airlock" in the system. They purged the lines or something and said that should fix the problem, but to keep an eye on it. It didn't make any real difference and the heat still is insufficient to warm the interior to a comfortable temperature. I went back for the third time and another tech went over the problem. After an hour he came to explain that all the vents functioned according to specs and we went for a test drive. It was the same as before. Unless the gauge is turned to full blast, the air coming from the system is luke warm at best. The floor vents don't give enough heat to keep your feet or legs warm. (my wife now has a blanket in the car) We then took a 2014 Rogue on the lot out for a drive and that heating system worked identically to mine, totally insufficiently. The tech told me this is as good as it's going to get. I am now convinced that this is a huge design flaw with the car. I asked the dealership rep and the tech to raise the issue with Nissan and their engineers. (I got the sense they probably wouldn't and were just happy to get me to leave) I am now going to contact Nissan directly, and if this doesn't get me any action I will start sending letters to the auto writers at newspapers across North America. I don't use twitter, but I understand this is a good way of getting complaints dealt with. Hopefully some of you readers who do use twitter can get a complaint going that way. I'll post updates after dealing with Nissan.

Update from Feb 13, 2015: I contacted Nissan this morning and spent 15 minutes going over the history with the inadequate heating system and my 3 experiences at the dealership to date. They are moving my complaint on to their Investigative Team. I am told I will hear back from them next week. I will post an update following that.

Update from Feb 21, 2015: Well, I heard back from the Nissan Investigate Team. It seems that their "investigation" is limited to them asking the dealership where I took the car what they found. The dealership had determined that the air mix doors were functioning to factory specs. They also determined by driving my car and another on the lot that the heater systems performed about the same. The conclusion based on that was that the heating system is working to factory specifications. I have learned that the heating system works automatically where, based on the temperature chosen by the driver, the air control calculates the target front air mix door opening angle depending on the selected temperature, intake temperature sensor, engine coolant temperature and rpm, and ambient temperature. However, the dealership tech did not check any of these factors, or did not measure the temperature of the air coming from the vents. According to documents found on line, the air temperature coming from the vents when the heat dial is set to 12:00 o'clock should be 75F. When set to the maximum, it should be 90F. When I check my air temp coming from the vents with the dial set to 12:00, the temperature is at most 50F or 10C. I argued all of these points with the Nissan rep and asked how to appeal their investigation. I also asked that this issue be reviewed by their factory engineers as the dealership was inept when it came to thoroughly investigating my issues and I felt that this is really a design problem. They said the case is closed, they will not consider further action, but I am free to take my car to another dealership for an assessment "at my own expense". At this point I feel totally let down. I intend to take the issue to newspapers across the country to try to get Nissan to do something about this design problem as I don't really know where else to turn. Any ideas about how to get them to budge and do the right thing would be welcomed.
