Nissan recalled 3.2 million cars for this exact issue. Was told mine was not covered by recall because the VIN was not included. Cost to repair is $2000. Escalated to Nissan from Dealership but they refused to acknowledge that there was any manufactures issue with my specific car. Was told that it's 9 months out of warranty and not included in my extended warranty so they will not repair.

I had a high opinion of Nissan until I bought one. Appears they don't have the same high standards that they used to.

Seat sensor not calibrated properly. My pregnant wife would not trigger the airbag. Passenger airbag off light is illuminated. During the same drive cycle, the light went out. Used a $300 OBD-II scan tool to pull code U3FFF.

Went to dealer, and the service manager said that they had a similar issue on the Titans, but not the Rogues. He said that the ECM and the seat sensor were, in fact, working properly on those vehicles. However, he said the ECM was not working with the indicator light itself, and that the airbag was continuing to work properly--independently of the indicator light malfunction. Having read about this same vehicle with this same problem being in accidents where the airbags failed to deploy, I am very skeptical.

Having researched this issue after returning home, I now know I was dealing with a service manager who was: A) Not up to date on the latest recalls for this vehicle. B) Confused about the makes and models pertinent to the recall. C) Lying about a known issue in order to downplay it.

Waited an hour. Service manager said they couldn't re-create the problem. He showed me the data from the tech's (dealer's) scan tool. It showed no codes. He asked me if I had cleared the codes with my scan tool. I told him that I had not cleared codes, as no repair had been attempted, and clearing codes would be nonsensical if I were coming to him inquiring about said code. Thought it was funny (or concerning,) that my piddly scanner could pull codes that the dealer software and hardware can't.

He said they performed a diagnostic check, and were unable to find a problem. I received a written summary of the incident stating I had a scan tool and had pulled codes they were unable to pull, along with them not being able to re-create the problem. I then cleared the codes in the parking lot before leaving the dealership.

I drove it less than thirty miles, and checked the code with my scanner. Same code had already reappeared. Cleared again, and within twenty miles, the code had reappeared. I will be calling the dealership in the morning to schedule an appointment to have this repaired. I will not allow my pregnant wife to ride in our only vehicle with this issue present, knowing serious injury could occur, as has been stated in a recall for this vehicle.

Here is the recall:

Recall Number 16V244000 Recall Date 04/26/2016 Component AIR BAGS: PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM Summary

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash. Consequence

If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

passenger seat air bag, light goes off when occupied

Passenger Air Bag Light turns off while driving. Several times my wife had been in the passengers seat, seat belt fastened, and for no reason the air bag light goes off. I took it to the dealer in Louisville, KY and they don't know why, and really seemed they didn't care. Master Service Tech. told me to make sure she was seated properly with butt to the back of the seat, facing forward, feet on the floor. For real... we are in our 50's. How do they think we travel while going down the road. Obviously Nissan or the Dealer have any idea how to correct this problem. I guess when someone dies due to faulty equipment they will do something.

Passenger airbag stays OFF; doesn't sense passenger seated. Must turn off engine and wiggle around on the seat; then restart engine (this method works most of the time, but sometimes have to repeat).

Have brought to dealership 3 times and Nissan says it's the computer. Three times it has not been fixed.

If you were in an accident and didn't happen to notice the airbag light being on, one could be killed, maimed, etc.

There is no solution - Nissan can't figure it out and the dealership does not care.

Please help!!!

Update from Jun 28, 2016: We took our Nissan to the dealership for the airbag recall and they reprogrammed the computer.

STILL having the exact same problem. We brought it back to the Nissan dealership and they said we have to complain to Nissan directly. So, in our situation the recall "solution" did not work.

My girlfriend is a "small Adult" and weighs 100lbs soaking wet and when she's a front seat passenger in her own car (the 2015 Rogue) the airbag is turned off because the weight sensor isn't sensing enough weight. Nissan claims that this is OK and it will actually save her from unnecessary injury or possibly death in the event of an accident. OK, I kind of understand and I've done some homework to confirm that this is a common thing with all other manufacturers. However, here is where I think her safety is actually being compromised. When she's driving, the airbag is on!!!! Does this mean that she may become injured/possibly killed by the airbag in an accident? The Nissan dealer only says that the system is performing the way it was designed!
