My vent is toward GMC! I understand Warranties ending. Trust me I do! But when you have a part that is not commonly known to fail in other car types, at least discount the part! Who the hell could know that Saturn ION's have a serious "Key Stuck in the Ignition" problem!

Stuck to the point that you can't turn the car off!!!

Ok, warranty expired as it should, especially on things that can obviously go out like a transmission, or anything stemming from bad usage/non maintenance. No car manufacturer should have to take up for a drivers inability or willingness to take care of the car. But a part that is not known to become damaged that disables you from turning the car off!!! That's plain silly.

No one told us upfront that that part would fail. No one said, "Excuse us sir but if you keep this car longer than 3 years, you probably wont be able to turn it off at some point."

I would have either chosen another model OR extended the damn warranty!!!

Then GMC has the nerve to have a Customer Service Rep. sit with a straight face/smile and tell me, "Sir I understand your frustration and if it were me (It's not!) I would feel the same.". Whatever! Then have the customer rep tell me that her Supervisor won't be able to do anything either!

Well you got me GM... all I can do is express myself to all that I know that I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT IN MY DAMN LIFETIME BECAUSE GM DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ME.

I better not find out you knew about this problem when you built the car!

I was coming pulling into my garage and tried to turn my car off and the key would not turn off the car! I could pull the key out of the ignition but the car stayed on. It took 2 hours to figure out just to turn the car off!! I had to look in the car manual and find out what fuse to pull out and also disconnected the battery because the ALT lights were staying on after the car was turned off by pulling the fuse. This is awful and I CANNOT afford to get this fixed. After searching the internet and found THOUSANDS of reports about the ignition not turning off seems like SATURN would've fixed this for the people who bought them. I will call Saturn Service office in the morning after I "rig my car" to get to work! What a bummer. Just last month my power steering had to be replaced and Saturn did cover that issue...now I'm wondering if they will fixed the mush known issue with the key ignition...

This is not the first time the ignition switch has gone out on this 2007 Saturn Ion. The General manager at the Saturn dealership said that this was an enormous problem. Equinox, Trailblazer and Cavaliers also had the same ignition problem. We also have a 2003 Saturn Ion that the ignition switch has been replaced twice. Just 9 months apart........ What is wrong with GM? Other then they DO NOT care about the consumer after the sale.... Just try to get in touch with head quarters and register a complaint......

Ok so this is a problem EVERYONE that owns a Saturn Ion is having..... I believe in happens in other models as well but most def the Saturn ION. My husband drove up to the store, went to shut the car off and guess what the key was stuck in the ignition and won't come out.... great right!! He has to drive home, disconnect the battery and something else to get the car to shut off, call up the place we bought the car from.... 2 months ago!! yes, only had this car 2 months!!! Never go through enterprise again!! and guess what! it's not covered. Well awesome..... so for now we have it rigged up to drive by unplugging the fuse etc.... anyone could steal my car. But it's going to cost over $500 to fix and we don't have that kind of money laying around with 5 kids.... this was supposed to be a reliable car. HA!

There are literally thousands of complaints on this issue all over the web, yet it hasn't been recalled. I reported it to the NTFSA and everyone else needs to as well otherwise they will never recall this issue..... PLEASE REPORT NOW, CALL YOUR LOCAL NEWS STATION. ANYONE YOU CAN, IF WE DON'T DO ANYTHING..... NOTHING WILL BE SOLVED!! PLEASE REPORT ASAP! and don't ever buy from enterprise!!

I checked on the internet and it seems that this is a very common problem with Ions. The fix was from $400 to $700, and every person felt that this should be a recall problem because of the safety factors and because of how many problems like this have occurred. I actually took the covering off the steering wheel to expose the switch and unplugged the live wire to kill the car. It starts if I plug it back, the key does turn to start it, but won't turn to the off position. Then I called the number to report problems from the manual. not knowing if there actually was any Saturn Corporation left, and I got a very helpful lady who is setting up an appointment with a local GM dealer for me to bring it in. From what she was saying, I may be reimbursed for any charge to diagnose it and fix the problem, once the dealer lets them know what exactly happened. I will let you all know how it works out. My car is less than 4 years old and has under 38,000 miles on it. When I got home last night, I couldn't turn the car off. I tried all the usual solutions (shifting gears, wiggling key, turning steering wheel) with no luck. I even took the panel off the bottom to try and push the lever to release it with no luck. I had to get my friend to come over and he unhooked the fuse behind the steering wheel to turn the car off. I still can't get the key out. I can restart the car by plugging the fuse back in but I'm not comfortable just leaving the key in the ignition. Does anyone know if there has been a recall or if this falls under the 5 year warranty?

Update from Sep 22, 2010: The mechanic had to take the whole steering column apart. Apparently there is some sort of box and the cover had come loose. He took it to the locksmith to fix. Cost me about $150.

I was out and about and tried to shut off my car, the key would not come out I had to drive all around town and the dealership was giving me the run around I had to pay for a new ignition and get it programmed to my car and then I paid for some one else to put it in so all together I was out of $250 that I didn't have and Saturn of St. Charles dealership service talked to me real bad.Since my car was out of warranty they basically said F*** me there is nothing that they could do. I had to leave my car running for 20 minutes while they programmed it and they didn't even offer me any gas or anything.

There is no reason for this to happen to an 07 vehicle of any type. Of course, the warranty is up and Saturn doesn't have to pay sh*t for this problem. Major inconvenience as this is our only means of transportation and we have children to get around. It's cold out and we had to pull the ignition fuse under the hood and then disconnect the battery in the trunk for two days until a shop could get us in. Then it takes Saturn two days to build us a new ignition and make new keys. This is ridiculous. Our problem was that once we started the car the keys were stuck and we could not stop our car. Lots of gas was wasted as a result of this also. Really, I feel that as a loyal customer Saturn should at least pick up half the cost if not all of it. This is obviously a reoccurring problem with their vehicles. I will not recommend a Saturn to anyone after this experience.
