CarComplaints.com Notes: Subaru thinks burning through a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so is perfectly normal. That's a crude stance if you ask us.

"SRS AIRBAG SENSOR NEEDS TO BE CHECKED" msg and "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" status message 95% of time. Disconcerting to say the least. Hate to think that someone might die because Subaru is unwilling to recall and fix this common problem.

When I purchased my Subaru Forrester, the dealer neglected to tell me that the passenger air bag does not work if the passenger sits on a pad. I had advised them that I always sit on a pad as I have a fused back needing additional cushioning. Imagine my state of mind when I had just spent $35,000 on a car that I can never take on the road if I ride as a passenger. The car uses some sort of sensor that is not based on weight but on some sort electrostatic sensor.

We are currently using the car as a spare, and I plan to trade my Honda CRV for a 2015 CRV so we will have a car for travel. There is no solution for me but someone needs to alert prospective purchasers. This also applies to short people who sit on cushions to elevate them. I have advised Consumers' Reports and all of my short friends who also sit on cushions. I can drive the car as a driver as I am able to sit on a pad in the driver's seat as I assume that the drivers' bag probably assumes that if the car is running someone is in the driver's seat. This is a well known problem which the dealers fails to mention.
