Seems the design staff at Toyota never drove their handy work in the real world if at all. First the Speedo and Tack, Gas and everything behind the wheel is in a long dark Tunnel and even with the dash lights on is hard to see when driving into the sun. Near impossible is more like it, unlike a new Camry.
Then on the other hand, The Back up Center of the dash TV LED screen is flush with the dash and 90 degrees to the back seats and could have been in a boxed tunnel and tilted to the driver somewhat, like the Speedo tunnel is. But No! The screen reflects any and all side and rear lights and looks like a big flashing light distraction device during daytime driving. Winter Snow days are even worse. The screen and back up cam is worse than useless in bright snowy daylight. The entire job reeks of cheap after thought design work. Not a well done design created by a real design team, my 5 year old could have done better. And then, the driver's wheel offset covers up what little of the Speedo you could have seen when it's dark out.
Then the TV screen is more of a distraction to driving than it should be maybe because it is a little too big. It's not worth the money added to the price of an over sized station wagon that it really is. Of course lots of shaky built new somewhat SUV like station wagons on the market today more or less copy this set up. Subaru's Dash looks almost the same except the dash lights are brighter so you can see the Speedo .
Maybe people should avoid buying cheap built tech crap cars for a few years until makers get the message about quality design work that is far more important than WiFi and phone gabbing when driving. This crap (distractions) is killing people on the roads every day. Not even jet plane pilots can fly safe with the over burden of too many distractions. Get some frog tape and a black sheet of black paper and cover the center dash LED Screen ( I think you will love it ), remove and change green frog tape from time to time so it will not get cooked on forever, no need to damage the dash. There should have been a better system than this.
