I have had this problem with the radio since i purchased the vehicle last April. It has happened with all three of my ipods. Two classics and one nano. I have been on several trips and at first it seemed that the problem would happen at about an hour into driving, now it will freeze anytime from 5 minutes to 2 hours. Very irritating! I took it to the dealership and they stated that they could not reproduce the problem. They tried some updates to the system, but that did not work. They finally said that they would replace the radio. While i was driving it to the dealership, it froze again. I was able to show them the problem. They videoed the problem. They replaced my radio and while i was driving home, it froze up again!!
I went home and read the owners manual and there it was, it stated the problem that i was having and the fix is to reset your ipod. So, just about every time i drive my truck, it freezes and i have to reset the ipod. I listen to my ipods 90% of the time, especially on trips.
This radio system sucks! i will probably end up purchasing a new aftermarket radio.
I am really disappointed in Toyota. I have been driving Toyotas for the past 20 years and have had no major problems with them. I bought this truck for $39,000 and the radio does not work!
To be fair, i have not had any other problems with it.
