I called VW Canada and a rep from their "Care Advocate" group got back to me and
said that they had no record of anyone else having this problem, and that I was not covered under warranty. I looked on VW forums and there are quite a few 2006 Jetta owners that have experienced the same problem (and got the same VW Corporate response).
It seems that a class action lawsuit should be made (loud and public) and maybe they would fix the problem. Its funny how the 2007 Jetta has the same radio, but the buttons are now silver (yah think they fixed the problem ?)

The paint on the face of the stereo just falls off. On every button the paint just falls off and there is no warranty for that

The coating on every hand control is flaking off,radio buttons,a/c,mirror controls,window switches,etc definitely a defect from VW. I had a 2001 VW jetta never had this issue and i put 200k on that model...
