CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 XC90 got a facelift -- the good kind, not the "hollywood" kind -- and has so far not had the same transmission problems that a few owners of previous model years have complained about.

XC90 AWD 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

Have the same issue as mentioned before and a search on it shows me that a lot of people are experiencing this. The issue started at around 100K. The transmission bolts/hesitates/jerks at around 20-30mph which makes me think is 3rd gear ????(6-speed auto). It is most noticeable when warming up. It is minimal when it is in normal temp.

I replaced the fluid at 110K with the proper trans fluid, it took about 12 quarts. It made it run smoother after that, but it has started to do it again. :(. The car now has 120k.

Also, my is a 3.2 V6 with a closed transmission which means I have to use the cooler line to extract and add the fluid. Most shops told me that they don't do the transmission fluid on this model because of this.

I guess Volvo thought the integrity of the fluid would last forever.

XC90

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

jerks into 3rd gear sometimes 4th gear and reverse

What a disappointment. this car starts slamming in the third and forth gears along with reverse after 10 to 15 minutes of warm up. You can be coasting along in traffic and out of no where the car looses it transmission power and regains it with a jolting shift into gear. The lost motion and than regaining the correct gear is so hard that one may think their being rear ended. what happend to the 'safest car on the road'?? the dealer whom I've been bying my Volvo from since 1980 said they coulnt find any thing wrong. I researched transmission mechanics who think its a defective solenoid, of many, that are tied into the transmissions peformance but upon the results of the diagnostic test the solenoid proplem are ruled out. One triple A service said I should chainge the transmission fluid because it may be burnt and lost its oil viscosity. The transmission oil change and labor cost me over $600.00.

Someone must have similar proplems as I so whats up with the Volvo. I find the car runs well when its cold or before its really warms up. Could there be a prolem with keeping the component of the transmission at a certain operating temperture..SMH
