As an owner of an Acura vehicle for the last 14 years, I wanted to share my experience about the quality issues that I have faced recently, which is eroding my trust in the brand.

I own a 2007 Acura RDX (VIN: 5J8TB18527A015845) with just over 70,000 miles in the last 14 years. I have been using this vehicle as my primary mode of transport. The vehicle has very little mileage compared to its age (average 5000 miles annually). The vehicle was always serviced by authorized Acura dealers / service centers and was kept in garage condition. In spite of this, I have been noticing for the past few months that the paint is peeling off from the roof and other parts of the vehicle. The car has never been through an automatic car wash, never had pressure washer on it, never a brush. The paint has completely peeled off from the entire surface of the roof and surrounding areas, and one could see bare metal.

I reported this to my nearest Acura dealer (Piazza Acura of West Chester, in West Chester, PA 19382), who told me to report the case with Corporate Acura since the vehicle is old and out of warranty. I called Acura Client Relations and opened a case (Case Number: 12073161). The case manager asked me to take the vehicle to the dealer and get a repair estimate, which I did. The repair estimate came out to be $5800. The estimate was shared with an Acura Representative, who declined with any kind of assistance, stating the paint warranty lasts for only 5 years from the time of purchase. The dealer has taken photographs while assessing the damage.

I have found numerous cases online where Acura line of vehicles have witnessed similar situations. This seems to be a known issue with Honda/Acura vehicles, which is often attributed to the quality of primer and paint that Honda uses. To me, this is a demonstration of poor paint quality, which, regardless of the age of the vehicle, should be handled by Acura. I would urge the Acura tram to consider my case and provide some assistance for the repair, especially when this is a known and recurring issue with Honda / Acura vehicles.
