The contact owns a 2004 Acura TL. While driving 55 mph, an abnormal noise was heard coming from the front of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fourth and fifth clutch plates failed and needed to be replaced. Another independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

My 2004 Acura TL has recently been experiencing issues where the transmission would lock up while driving, potentially leaving myself and my passenger(s) susceptible to a vehicular crash and rendering the vehicle immobile. While checking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the U.S. automotive recall and Acura websites, I saw that there had been a recall (00-04 cl & TL A/T recall) for the 'exact same issue' I was having with my Acura. I then proceeded to call the 1800 number that was on Acura's webpage. Upon calling this number, I was instantly met with resistance about the recall and was given the run around about the appropriate person to speak with regarding this issue. I was specially told that my car was not impacted by this recall and Acura would not honor the safety defect that potential affected 1,099,796 units according to the recall summary that is displayed on all three websites previously mentioned. When I requested to speak with a zone manger or someone that would look into my inquiry, I was put on hold for 20 minutes, only to speak with a customer service agent by the name of Julian. Julian reiterated that my issue was not applicable to the recall and suggested that I take the vehicle to an Acura dealership at my own expense. I informed Julian that I was not pleased with his decision to dismiss my inquiry and I requested his contact information to file a formal complaint, which he refused to give me. I am reaching out today because my vehicle has been affected by NHTSA recall number: 04V-176 and I have not received the customer service that anyone would find acceptable in resolving this issue. I would like for my vehicle to be repaired by Acura at no expense to me and for someone at Acura to follow up with me by the end of this week with a resolution to this matter.

The transmission seems to be falling out of gear. Its an automatic and when I put it into drive sometimes it doesn't go although the RPM still goes up and gas is still being pushed so im pretty sure the car thinks its going when its not. When I was driving on a busy road my Acura decided to fall out of shift as I was turning. So, everythings great and then all of a sudden my car wont go instead its just rolling even though I give it gas and the RPM goes up.

My son purchased a new 2004 Acura TL from the elk grove ca dealership with money he saved while in the navy. He has had the car and maintained it through the end of last year but has been aware for awhile that the transmission is in need of replacing. There was a NHTSA recall (04V176000) April 15, 2004 for power train transmissions like the automatic transmission in my son's car and motor trend magazine posted that it potentially 1,000,796. We believe that our son's car has the same problem, whether or not the VIN was in the exact lot selected for the official recall. When my son got out of the navy, he moved around quite a bit while finishing his bachelor's degree and did not receive any information regarding this matter from Acura and did not hear about it otherwise. We have taken the car to the fremont, ca Acura dealership but they are refusing to acknowledge any culpability or replace the transmission, though there are obvious, well-known, historical transmission issues with Acura. Refusal is, of course, the first line of defense in corporate America, but we hate to see his hard earned money ($30K+) spent on what was supposed to be a high-performing, luxury vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 Acura TL. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shifted into gear abruptly. The vehicle would also hesitate between gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure became worse until the vehicle would not shift into any gear and became inoperable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed of a recall under NHTSA campaign number: 04V176000 (power train) but did not confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall. The failure and current mileage was 124,000.

While on a hill to make a left turn a supermarket the transmission started to make a loud noise and the car started rolling backward with the shifter in drive in drive mode. At that movement the engine stalled and it was difficult for the car brakes to be applied and in reverse the car crashed into a hydraulic lift gate causing major damage and the insurance company declared a total loss. The police officer arrived to investigate and try to put the shifter into park and it was very difficult. The police officer declared that the car had a mechanical failure and it caused the accident. Note, this transmission was installed by Acura last year with about 15,000 miles driven and failed.

Vehicle sputtering/judders during acceleration at low speeds (around 25-35mph). This problem started sometime after (may be in 2009) I bought a pre-owned vehicle in 2007. When I first complained it to a dealer in 2009, they said it might be due to cold weather. But now I moved to a place which is warmer all year around, but still the problem persists. Recently took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the transmission might need a replacement.
