TLX SH-AWD V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

If anyone of you haven't had a newer version of the so called "Luxury" Acura TLX V6 SH-AWD, make sure you know it's problems. The manufacture warranty... do a little research before buying, so that you know you get what you paid for. It's got engine stall on the highway, rear suspension vibrates in high speed, vibration when hard braking. Not performance tires, lost power when driving in city street stop n go intersections.

TLX AWD 6

Model ACURA TLX AWD Technology package. I traded in a great 2013 TLX AWD which was great.

I purchased the car September 19, 2016. I drove the car on the turnpike at from 65-80 MPH and found the steering wheel vibrating excessively as well as the seat and floor boards. I took the car to the dealership on day 3 of ownership. The Dealership was great in being responsive to the problem. 1. They first did a balance of the tires 2. Trip 2: They replaced the tires and rebalanced. ( contacted Acura who said "Operates as designed" 3. Trip 4: They did a "Road Force Balance" Did not solve the problem. 4. Dealership contacted Acura corporate and got the non committal answer - "Operates as designed" 5. Trip 5: Acura came out with a TSB "fix". (which suggest they know of the engineering problem). The TSB replaced motor mounts, larger nuts and other stuff. which helped a little but did not fix the vibration. Still very bothersome. I contacted ACURA corporate and talked to the VP service manager. He said he would talk to the dealership and possibly send a regional rep to look at my car. Of course he thinks corporate service people are smarter that the well qualified dealer service people. He repeated to me about 7-8 times..."It is operating as designed". He refused to allow money back. He refused to swap out. He refused all suggestions. He said it is the dealership responsibility.

My guess is ACURA has their staff trained to say, "Operates as designed", or they may be libel for Millions of dollars should there need to be a recall due to the "engineering problem"

6. 11/23/16 - I spoke to the Dealer Service Manager who suggested a set of Michelin tires and remove the Goodyear tires. He was not surprised at Acura VP's response.

At this point, ACURA has abandoned the dealership and me, the client, as the problem to them is not a problem as it "Operates as designed". I am very angry at this point as it is a new 3 year lease. I will now have to deal with the issue for 34 more months. Unless the dealership can figure out what to do as Acura has noted them as "responsible" as the car "Operates as designed". The dealership service, sales and management have be great. To bad ACURA Corporate has not been.

My next step is to go find a Lemon Law attorney. This could take months with an unknown result.

I would not recommend ACURA to anyone as they are totally non-responsive. I was a fan of ACURA until now.

Update from Jan 27, 2017: The replacement of engine mounts and other bolts, mounts, etc. from a technical article did diminish the problem, it still persists. I drove a 2017 TLX AWD and found the same issue. No doubt it is an engineering problem. It is now in the hands of "Lemon Law".
