You guessed it. GM didn't pay attention to the small details like using high quality sealants, testing factory cars ability to withstand heavy rain without leaks,etc. I have a water puddle in the driver side carpet, because of bad seals that should keep water out of interior and keep it running into engineered drain holes safely to ground. It is coming from near the parking brake from up top under heavy rains. Not that hard to fix, but also not a problem on 95% of cars. So, you have to wonder what went wrong with the design and materials.
