Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Intermittent electrical issue, typically happens when coming to a stop and/or turning (thankfully!) going slow, especially when parking; however, intermittent, not consistent. During this episode, the dash lights flicker, stabilitrak warning comes on; radio, AC and anything electrical shuts off temporarily. Power steering seems to cut in & out as well... Sometimes the vehicle dies.

I can then put the truck in N and restart the engine, and drive again... until the next episode. This just started happening randomly over the last 3-4 weeks.

No vehicle maintenance lights, warning lights, or other indicators of any problems that would show up if put on a diagnostic computer (which I have not done yet).

While turning left into a parking lot, I lost power steering & all electrical power. I had enough speed to get out of the way of on coming traffic & coasted to a stop. I reinserted the key several times with no response from the dash lights. I opened & closed the door & everything reset. For a few minutes I lost A/C & all radio settings. I get warning lights such as service the anti theft deterrent system, stabiliatrack, power steering assist disabled. This has happened several times since Dec 2018.

I carried to the dealership on Jan 29, 2018 & the steering sensor was reprogrammed. I left the truck with the dealership from April 29 - May 3, they drove it several times but never had an issue & no codes displayed. After the truck going dead 3 times in 24 hrs it's back at the dealership & I'm not sure I want to drive it anymore until resolved. The dealership has been really good to me during this issue always providing me something to drive. If anyone has come up with a solution, please post it.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

Dash lights dimmed while hitting brakes, Had random noises from the stereo and it would short out on harder turns, Steering would cut out or reset while parking or turning hard. Same multitude of problems reported in the Electrical section. After Removing Dash and loosening G218 Driver side Groundnut and cutting Insulation away from the bolt and re-seating ground wire solved all my issues. Hope this helps someone else!

A few times when the steering went out I almost crashed. This could have been WAY WAY WORSE! As in LAWSUIT WORSE if death or injury had occurred due to steering and electrical system problems all because of a ground Nut in the cab! Come one CHEVY!!!!

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

I have done a ton of research on this issue. I have had my 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT since March 2017. In the past 3 months I have experienced multiple issues with the stabilitrak warning popping up on my dash, lights flickering (with no AC or Heat running, radio off, with the truck running in Park or Drive with the brake pedal depressed so I am not moving). I have also been driving at highway speeds and when I put my blinker on, the cruise will shut off.

The worst of this that I have experienced is driving about 45-55mph and the entire truck just shut off. I am a single 28 year old and if I had a family, I would NOT trust this vehicle to carry my family anywhere. I have read multiple threads, watched multiple YouTube videos on this, and it seems to be centered around a GM recall for #17276 (which does not seem to fix this) and around a specific ground point G218 for these trucks. I am honestly at a loss.

My vehicle has turned off 4 times now, either on the road driving or pulling into a parking spot/driveway. In the Appleton, WI area I have had two dealerships look into this issue and nobody seems to know what to do, except guess.... or quote me around $600 to replace a negative battery cable. This issue needs to be addressed by GM.

There are too many of us looking into this, making videos of it, and complaining about it. I will honestly volunteer my truck to GM to run tests to figure this out. Are they too afraid, or proud, to admit that there is a serious issue with these vehicles?
