Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving approximately 8 mph, the contact "felt a crunch" on the front passenger side wheel. Immediately, the wheel slumped and the chrome wheel cover fell out. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed that the fractured wheel was rusted out. With some help, the contact mounted a spare wheel, drove home, and then took the vehicle to the dealer where it was confirmed that the wheel fractured and needed to be replaced, at cost. The contact refused and drove home. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The wheel was not replaced. The failure mileage was 143,000....updated 08/15/16

The front end intermittently begins to "shimmy" at about 50mph. I have replaced tires, inner and outer tie rods, and brakes calipers but the problems have not resolved. The vehicle has always had problems with a "clunking" from the steering column. Several owners report the same problem.

Noticed vehicle vibration at slow speed and persistent but not as severe at highway speeds. Not being a mechanic I thought it felt like a tire out of round or tire out of balance. Took it to a Firestone shop to inspect and correct problem. Mechanic found that the right front bearing was falling apart and needed to be replaced. The tires were ready to be replaced they had 60,000 miles on them with a little cupping but fairly even wear. Without stopping to check the tires the bearing most likely would have failed at highway speeds, which probably would have prevented me from filing this report.

The driver side wheel bearing locked up and my truck was undrivable, it made a load clunking noisy and that was it, I just pulled off the highway to get gas, and when I started out of the station the front wheel lock up, it was good to have happen there instead of on the road, or I would not be writing this now, I had to call a tow truck and took it to a dealer, which confirmed that it did indeed lock up the left front wheel and the right one was very loose, needs to be replace also, it buned the had burned the brakes completely up on the driver side, where it was totally lock up, the mechanic told me they replace them all the time from one year old and up so there has to be something wrong in this type of bearing, they are very expensive to be replaced, my truck has 47,450 miles and has been well maintain, so there is no reason that this should have happen.

Chevy 2005 Silverado 68,000 miles. Bearing assembly went out on left side. When I heard a loud "clunk" noise I towed it to the dealer. Mechanic said wheel was about to fall off and called it "catastrophic" failure. Now 4 weeks later other side is going out. This could have killed me. I do a lot of highway driving, only reason I discovered it was because I drove with windows down and heard the noise. This could have killed me if I had the air on and windows up!

: the contact stated the front driver side wheel makes a clunking noise and the steering wheel is inoperable. The dealer inspected the vehicle several times and was unable to determine the problem; however the steering shaft was lubricated. Additionally, an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined the steering box was loose.
