Silverado 2500

  • 190,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact was pulled over for speeding. The contact stated that the gauge registered at 55; however, the police stated that he was clocked at 65 mph. The contact then used the gps to track the speed of the vehicle and it was off by 10 mph. The failure recurred on several occasions. The dealer was made aware of the failure and stated that the instrument cluster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Speedometer does not read accurate. It either reads 15 mph at highway speeds, or goes way high such as 120 mph at 55 to 60 mph. Sometimes at the higher reading, it will read 60 mph when vehicle is stopped, in park, and ignition off. I was told this is a stepping motor but hard to change and expensive to change. I have read that there was a class action lawsuit that was never brought up.

The dashboard cluster went out, speed odometer stuck on 60mph. Had to race motor up until it red line returned to 0. the entire electrical board stopped working, found out was a recall but my VIN was not included. Spoke to autry morlan dealership several times. We paid out of pocket to have replaced and that cluster has done same thing. Still no recall on our truck. Will cost another 200-300 to fix out of pocket. Gas gauge does not work, speed odometer does not work. RPM will work and that is how we judge our speed on truck.

The instrument panel is defective. I contacted GM when it first happened and they said they knew they had a problem and would notify me when they had a recall. But I was never notified of a recall or them replacing the parts. When I started checking they said that I had missed the recall. Now they will not fix it. I had to pay to have it put on a computer at an authorized dealer and they said it was a factory defect but GM will not fix my truck.. the dealer said that it would cost approximately $350 to repair it. GM has offered me a $2000 discount on a new truck, but why would I want to purchase something that the manufacture will not stand behind.

The speedometer gives false readings. For example, when traveling at approx. 30mph, it will read 95mph. At other times, it will "bottom out" going past 120mph, when actual speed is nowhere near that. When stopped at a light, or even with engine turned off, it will not return to the zero mark. All other gauges in the cluster appear to perform normally.

While driving normally I noticed my speedometer giving erroneous readings as high as 120 mph, and upon stopping, the speedometer stayed at the 35 mph. Position. After a few days, it returned to normal. Occasionally, the speedometer does not work for days at a time. I feel it is dangerous driving with a speedometer which is not reliable. GM has refused to fix the problem and told me I am fully responsible for all parts and labor costs because my vehicle is out of warranty. Now, the volt-meter also does not work and the needle points down at a "6 O clock" position which is off the chart. This has been broken for several weeks now.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact noticed the speedometer was registering an inaccurate reading. The failure occurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and authorized dealer whom both stated the speedometer would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. Currently the speedometer was inoperable. The manufacturer was notified and informed that the vehicle exceeded the service warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000. Updated 9/25/12 the dealer agreed to pay for the labor, if the consumer paid for the parts. Updated 10/04/12

Speedometer started sticking at 60mph and then if the truck was restarted it would go back to 0 and start working again and then would stick again later. Well now it's just stuck at 0 and doesn't move at all. All the other gauges work properly though.

The speedometer is stuck at 49 mph and will not move up or down. G.M. has had a problem with the speedometers for a number of years in the mid 2000's and has replaced the defective speedometer cluster panels on many vehicles under warranty. The cut-off is mileage and not the year of the vehicle. 85,000 is the cut-off and my 2005 Silverado 2500 is at 37,076 December 13, 2011. This is a second vehicle and my wife has a 2005 escalade that had the same issue with the speedometer and the local Cadillac dealer replaced it under warranty since it was below the threshold of 85,000 miles at the time. I talked to chris at G.M. at (866) 790-5700 X 40683 and she gave me a tracking number of 71-1011262550. Chris called me back after contact with the local Chevrolet dealership (champion Chevrolet) and said that she would not warranty the speedometer. The service advisor said that he would replace the cluster but that I would have to pay $175 labor to install it. I bought the vehicle new in 2005 and would have bought something else if I had known of the defects in this vehicle. I have had to replace a third C.D. radio which I paid for the labor to install which I feel is the manufacturers problem also. I am unable to tell how fast I am going with this speedometer.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3/4 ton truck. The speedometer is stuck in the 6 O'clock position, and won't move, the odometer doesn't work, and now the fuel guage quit working. I can't tell how much fuel I have by using the guage, and without an odometer or tripometer I can't even use math to figure it out. Plus I have no idea how fast I'm going. I hear this isn't an isolated problem, why hasn't there been a recall on this?

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd truck. I have only 25,000 miles on this car. The speedometer has suddenly become erratic and does not display the correct speed of the vehicle. When I am traveling at very low speed (close to standing still) it displays 10 to 15 mph. At higher speeds it displays speeds that are much greater than the speed that the vehicle is really traveling at.
