They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle started to smoke while driving 10 mph. The warning indicator illuminated that the air bag was deployed. The vehicle was not in a crash and the air bag did not deploy when the incident occurred. The passenger was injured from the seat belt tightening on the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not able to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 190,000.

The front driver and passenger side seat belts extraction buckle exploded and emitted smoke from the front driver side extraction buckle. The contact was trapped in the seat. The seat belt and service air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the two front bumper sensors corroded and needed to be replaced. Also, the front driver and passenger seat belts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,581.

The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. Updated 3/28/14 the consumer stated there were times, when the seat belt would not even latch. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that it was an inadvertent deployment of the seat belt pre-tensioner. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and was told not to work on the vehicle, because they were sending someone out to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected.
