Driving along road, brake pedal went to the floor when I attempted to stop. Upon inspection, discovered that the hydraulic line going from the ABS module to the rear brakes had ruptured due to corrosion. Upon further inspection it has been determined that all of the hydraulic brake lines are swollen and corroded to the point of failure and must be replaced at a cost of over $1200. My truck has not moved since, as I cannot afford to repair this issue.

While approaching intersection put on brakes and they failed, pedal went to the floor. If I had not been a test driver for Chrysler Corp. And doing lots of brake and suspension work I could have easily been seriously hurt. The brake lines were shot, rusted through. This vehicle has spent it's life in fl. No salt on the road. I know you have ruled on this being a recall, but I think you made a huge mistake, someone will be killed by this. Thanks

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 20 mph and attempting to engage the brakes, the accelerator pedal went to the floor and the brakes failed without warning. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the brake line was corroded. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence where he discovered large amounts of brake fluid leaking from various spots on the brake line. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving approximately 35 mph hauling a trailer, the front and rear brake hydraulic lines failed. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by using the brakes on the trailer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact, an experienced mechanic, diagnosed and replaced the brake lines. On a separate occasion while driving 50 mph, a plastic component of the driver's seat fractured and caused the seat to slide back and forth into the steering wheel. The failure was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 58,000. The VIN was not available.

Brakes: Since approximately 136,000 miles to present miles, the vehicle has exhibited an ABS and brake warning light intermittently on the dash. This is a known GM issue that was recalled in certain states, but not all. It stems from faulty soldering points in the ABS control module and can affect the vehicles ability to stop correctly which could result in an accident. Engine/ emissions: The passenger side exhaust manifold bolt has broken off. This is a known issue with this 5.3L engine as well as the 4.8L and 6.0L engines. GM has failed to recall in spite of having thousands of complaints. The issue can cause failed emissions and potentially engine fires. Engine: As of 164,000 miles, the engine is experiencing loud "piston slap". this is a known issue which GM addressed through redesign in later models. It leads to excessive engine wear and potential engine failure. It appears to be a factory defect, yet GM has claimed it is not important despite numerous complaints from customers that the engines have required replacement as a result.

Looking under the truck I notice a metal brake line has a hole. The worst part, all the medal brake lines are so rusted it looks as if they could all fail at any time.

Pushed the brake pedal and was not able to stop due to a blown brake line. This was my first incident, but the second for the truck. This issue occurred when my father owned the truck and he had GM replace the brake lines. I had GM replace the brake lines for a second time. It's very scary not being able to stop a vehicle, but luckily I was on a highway and was able to drift over to the shoulder.

Driving on two way street attempted a right hand turn applied brakes, peddle went to floor, attempted to pump, truck slowed to stop. Noted large amount of fluids on road. Truck was taken to mechanic, found brake-line had burst on left front wheel. After inspection noted that all brake-lines looked like kfc chicken were all corroded and brittle. Mechanic indicated that this was a extreme safety hazard. Recommended that I contact dealership and report incident. Also, fill our and file a vehicle safety complaint. I was not informed by GM that there maybe a problem that has been on going and after looking into it have found both GM's cavalier attitude, and the governments not requiring at the very least a notification never mind a total fix to be required of GM a serious breach of confidence in my government to provide for the safety of its citizens.

I own a 1999 Silverado ext cab 4X4 and the frame is rot in many different places the driver and passenger mid sections are half gone and now the rear sections under the bed are rotting to the point to where the is no good metal left the bed buckled and is hitting the cab the rest of this vehicle is in very good condition but the frame is gone.

Was going to work at about 3:40 pm about 15 miles from my house had stopped at 2 stop signs and 3 red lights was going down hill towards 4th stop light cars were slowing down in front of me speed limit was 45 I was slowing my vehicle at about 25mph or less lost all brakes pedal went completely to floor was not able to stop vehicle hit truck in front of me no one was injured thank god this vehicle was bought brand new buy us at shelor motor mile Chevrolet in christiansburg Virginia it came with lifetime inspection by them had always been inspected by them last inspection 7 month this year last day of month never got any call of recall notice from GM or check brake line information from them I think GM should pay to have my truck brake lines replaced and be held liable for damages to my and the other persons truck this is a much more severe problem then ignition switch cutting off I think GM is putting this off because of cost and labor charges the truck is being towed to dealership today by the way brake lines at left under drivers door at ABS valve burst with no warning due to corrossion.

I was moving the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in my driveway to make room to move another car. I backed the truck into my turn around, then put the truck into drive to move it forward a little. When I pushed on the brakes to stop the pedal went halfway to the floor stopped them went clear to the floor. I had no brakes, other than the emergency brake on the truck, which I used to stop the truck. After getting the truck stopped and to a spot I could inspect it. I discovered that two brake lines had burst and were leaking fluid onto the ground. The breaks were not in a bend in the line where they seems to typically happen. They were in a straight section just underneath the drivers side door where the lines run along the frame. Upon further inspection I noticed that all the brake lines were as heavily corroded as the section that had burst. Luckily this happened in the driveway as I was preparing to leave in the truck.

In 2013, the ABS began routinely activating during braking at speeds of 5-10 mph. I found recall 05068: Unwanted ABS activation. My GM maintenance records noted this recall service was completed 3/31/2006. The 3/31/06 service notes were "inspections: Electrical/wiring." I contacted GM corporate customer service in Jan.2014 to notify them that currently my ABS were erroneously activating on nearly all braking events. Additionally, I asked what recall service was actually performed on 3/31/06 because the notes only indicate an inspection occurred. A conference call ensued between GM customer service, the local GM service dealership, and myself. GM allowed 1 hour to diagnose the ABS problem on 1/22/14 at the local GM dealer. The resulting 1/22/14 service notes were: "diagnose & found left front wheel speed sensor dropping out. Inspect wiring for poor connections or damaged wiring. All ok. Gave estimate to replace left front wheel hub assembly." In person, the dealership said this bearing was worn & was causing ABS activation. I left upset, without the $642 wheel hub assembly install because I didn't believe the bearing was worn. On 5/30/2014, I had another service shop independently diagnose my trucks bearings, tie rods and suspension. They confirmed my original belief that the bearings did not need to be replaced. I did have both inner tie rods replaced at this time. On 6/17/14, I took my truck to a 3rd service shop to have them complete a front end alignment because inner tie rods were recently installed. I also asked them to determine if this bearing was worn. Their opinion was the bearing was ok and no maintenance was required. In summary, the GM service shop had opportunities on 3/31/06 and 1/22/14 to complete the recall remedy and failed. I have removed the fuses to disengage the ABS and prevent an accident because this condition still exists.

While bringing vehicle to a stop, brake pedal was depressed as normal but the pedal went all the way to the floor. Steel brake line burst and fluid was dispersed on the ground. All steel brake lines were extremely rusted. I replaced entire original steel line system with new stainless steel lines at a cost of $596.

Steel brake line ruptured while applying brakes in parking lot. After inspecting the steel brake lines; they appear to have severe corrosion issues throughout the braking system. I believe all brake lines needs to be replaced due to severe safety concerns with the remaining steel brake lines. I am glad that the brake line burst at a low speed and not during a fast stopping situation.

On 06/07/2013 driving 55 mph tried to stop and had no brake. Had to run off road to keep from hitting cars ahead of me. On 5/30/14 front brake line left go while backing up on boat ramp to load boat. I almost went into the lake. The metal brake lines are all rusting and Chevy should be held accountable before I die. Thank you

We were traveling through sheboygan wi towing a 24-foot long fifth wheel rv behind our 1999 Silverado. At about 2:00pm on July 9, 2013, we were traveling at about 30mph down a grade on Wisconsin highway 23 toward the intersection with I-43 business route, both highways are 4 lanes with left turn lanes and there is traffic light control. When I went to apply the brakes to stop for the red left turn signal, there was almost no brake effect. I was able to rapidly pump the brake pedal enough to stop, but ended up about 5-10 feet into the cross-traffic lane. Fortunately, the traffic was light at the time and as a result, no accident occurred. After creeping our units into a parking lot, I checked under the hood, found nothing there, then checked under the vehicle and saw a puddle of brake fluid. By using the emergency brake and traveling slowly, we made it to the Chevrolet dealership. They examined the vehicle and reported that several of the brake lines had corroded badly where they exit the central control block of the brake system underneath the truck. They were leaking slowly and at least one of them had finally failed. We had purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle, but, unfortunately, it would not cover part failures due to corrosion. There was nothing in the owners manual addressing the problem of brake line corrosion and the service representatives at the sheboygan Chevrolet dealership offered no information. When I discussed the problem with the service department of ed bozarth Chevrolet in topeka, they offered no explanation. This cost us $935.66 to repair and very nearly resulted in serious bodily harm to my wife and myself. General Motors should have been warning Chevy owners about this problem as well as reimbursing those affected.

Brake failure, upon leaving my home I approached hwy62 to make my stop at the end of my street, when I applied the brakes it began to slow then the pedal went to the floor and I was forced to go onto state highway 62 without stopping. I was lucky that no traffic was coming at that moment. As the speed limit on that part of hwy62 is 40mph. I made a slow loop back home. I inspected my vehicle to see burst brake line that was rusted badly near the frame at rear of truck. I had a wrecker tow it to a local shop. Then to find out the brake lines were rotted out. $306.93 in repairs.
