I have had my Chevrolet Spark EV for less than 3 months with less than 25k miles on it and the brakes have failed three times with intermittent issues and brake "stuttering" while my foot is off the brake. The major brake issues, according to the three dealerships I have brought this vehicle to, are "likely" coming from an ABS sensor issue in the wheels and computer braking management system. The brake peddle itself has complete FAILED on me multiple times causing me to roll through red lights and stop signs, nearly getting hit. In this small vehicle I could have died had if the other cars did not see me and stop. All dealerships have been at a loss for how to resolve this and have put me back on the road only to have the issue persist/worsen. I will be getting rid of this car as soon as possible. It's a bummer, I really wanted an EV, but not at the risk of brake failure.........

On the way back to my San Francisco home from the Novato Chevrolet Dealer where I had just purchased a new black 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV my brakes stopped functioning. Just coming off the Golden Gate Bridge, on a significant downhill grade, my brakes stopped functioning properly. At first the brakes started to be harder to push and then with my foot to the floor, provided almost no stopping power. The stopping distance was dangerously long. VERY DANGEROUS! Just over 2 miles. There was no way for me to stop the car immediately. Only minimally . With my foot to the floor, I was able to slow the car enough that 2 miles later, I was finally able to pull over and come to a stop. On the display panel, there were warning lights continuously ON:

- "Service Break Assist"

- "BRAKE" warning light

- "ABS" warning light

- "TCS" warning light

I was lucky to pull over with no (fatal) accident, and then waited almost 3 hours from dusk to dark to have GM tow it back to the dealer, then get a cab, paying out of pocket to go home.

You get a flashing warning that the Stabilitrack needs servicing and immediately after there is a warning that there is Brake Failure. Then the pedal goes down to the floor and there are no brakes. Luckily we were on a slight incline when it happened.

I was driving on the freeway during evening rush hour, so it was stop-and-go traffic. I always leave plenty of room between myself and the car in front of me. The car ahead stopped suddenly, and I slammed on my brakes with a car and a half length distance between myself and the vehicle in front of me. I was going about 15 miles per hour and my car did not stop - I slid straight into the car in front of me. It was not icy and there was plenty of room to stop. The brakes failed.

When I first purchased the vehicle, I remember hitting the brakes and saying to myself and my friend at the time, "Man, it doesn't feel like this thing wants to stop all of the way." Well, it doesn't stop all of the way and it is a major hazard.
