The problem I started having, usually while on the freeway, while in gas mode, was that the engine would start running rough and vibrating for a few seconds, then shortly thereafter the Check Engine Light would come on. The first time it happened I ignored it as it didn't seem to come back on when I was driving in town and I had forgotten about it. But, the next time I was on the highway, it did it again. I took it to the dealer and the code read "Misfire Cylinder 1" and they said one of the spark plugs looked worn, so I agreed to have all four replaced.

The next day I drove it in town going no more than 35 miles/hour and the same thing happened. I took it back to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate the code and said "you need to drive it more, maybe you filled up with some bad gas, so drive it down to 1/4 tank and fill it with fresh gas." Well, I did that, and the problem still came back again. Went back to the dealer and they said the ignition coil was functioning intermittently, so they replaced that. The very next day the same problem occurred just driving around town again. At this point I've spent over $800 on the two procedures. The problem would happen typically after I drove the car approximately 22-25 miles but it also happened when I drove it just 5 miles.

I'm getting really annoyed at this point. I take it to a local car repair shop with a hybrid expert dude and he does the following: Engine OIl Service Restoration, Lube Oil and Filter, Fuel Induction Cleaning. The tech drives it 25 miles, and says it's running great again. I drive it an additional 100 or so miles with no issue. I get charged $585 by that car shop. Seems to have fixed the problem. At one point in this mess, I got the check engine light preceded by the engine running rough, followed by a Cold Battery Plug Into Charger Alert. I'll address that in another post. Two unrelated alerts in rapid succession... Can you believe that?
