I can't work because my job requires a car. If I can't work, I can't get any money for a new car or to get this one fixed in which I can't because there are no engines available for it.

It started flashing the oil light when idling so I took it in to the shop. At first they just changed the oil pressure sender, and when that didn't fix it they dug a bit deeper, pulled the pan, and found pieces of main bearing scattered about. The oil pressure light was coming on because the engine was essentially wiped out and the oil was pouring through the bearings resulting in low pressure. The timing chain is also rattling. Chrysler quoted over $3000 just to replace the timing chain!!! I haven't had them quote to replace the engine.
I don't know what to do with this pile of junk - if I put a used engine into it I'll spend as much to fix it as I'd get selling it after the repair. I don't want to fix it and keep it, because I figure it'll just happen again. Ive been fastidious at making sure the oil was changed regularly so there's no way it should have sludged up.
I will never buy another Dodge/Chrysler product.

I bought my 2000 Intrepid in 2004 with 66,000 miles on it. No big issues until July 2007. At 106,000 miles the car started missing a lot and check engine light would come on. Had it tuned-up, oil change, new spark plug wires and the problem continued. The local gas station mechanic was able to diagnose the the problem as a dirty cam shaft sensor. He took it out (said it was filthy with sludge), cleaned it up and the problem went away. Then I found Car Complaints and read the horror stories about the piece of garbage I owned!! I was able to trade it in and get $1,500 value toward another non-Chrysler product. Thanks to this website, I saved myself from losing out completely.

The second time with the exact same problem - the engine has started knocking again, exactly the same as it did when I replaced it at 79,000 miles. I replaced the oil every 3000 miles, although there was admittedly one time I replaced it after 3500 miles.
The Chrysler 2.7L engine only seems to go about 70,000 miles until failure.

This car is the only car I own and I still owe $3000. on it. I can not afford to fix the car and I think someone needs to be held accountable!!
