The coolant smell started late summer of 2021. It was associated with a very small drop in the coolant level.
In early December a Check Engine Light illuminated and the car would no longer use the hybrid battery properly. In fact the in car data was showing the car continued to charge the hybrid battery. I took the car to the dealer on Dec 9 2021, and they told me that the problem was a defective electric coolant heater. The car is not yet back from the dealer (they expect to have the part replaced today Dec 30, 2021), so I don't know if that fixed the problem.
