My new 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6, driven only 6407 miles in 11 months, showed Airbag Malfunction Warning display. Car was in perfect condition and parked inside a covered car garage before going on a few weeks of vacation. After returning from the vacation, first time noticed the airbag warning light. Took the car to an authorized Hyundai dealer, who diagnosed and said the Airbag deployment control electronic board has failed and needs immediate replacement. Hyundai dealer also advised me not to drive the car without the fix. He provided a loner car and sent me home. It took three days for the dealer to order the Airbag Control Electronic Board- Part no: SPO 95910-B1000 and to fix the issue (B1620 INTERNAL FAULT-REPLACED SRSCM).
I am totally disappointed that a key system like airbag deployment control unit could fail in a high-end, luxury car like Hyundai Genesis that too while it was parked in Southern California garage. It is scary to imaging airbag unit failing whiling driving through Mojave Desert and air bag deploying on your face without any reason.
Hyundai Genesis 2015 already recalled to fix gear / tail lamp related issues. It also volunteered to change tires to reduce tire noise. Hyundai should critically follow and examine Airbag warning issue.
