The contact owns a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. While entering the vehicle, the contact noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. He then noticed that the wiring for the ABS underneath the hood of the vehicle caught fire. He poured water on the wires to extinguish the flames. A certified mechanic stated that a grounded hot wire inside the ABS pump caused the fire. The vehicle is currently at the contact's residence and has not been repaired. The dealer stated that they were not responsible for the failure. The current and failure mileages were 138,420.

1999 izusu Rodeo with multiple problems: Ie: ABS brake light won't go out. Have had vehicle serviced however when coming to a stop, vehicle slides. Gas gauge light won't go out...tank is full...repair price-crazy. High idle-foot on brake and vehicle lunges forward. While driving, vehicle picks up speed quickly. Windshield wipers erratic-sometimes they work, sometimes they don't and sometimes they just stop right in the middle of the window. All of these are safety issues. I'm finding that some owners fell under a recall to fix these items but I don't. I don't understand that. Do I have to kill or be killed first especially with the breaking issues? updated 10/23/07

The antilock brake system indication light illuminated and anti-lock brakes do not function. Check the message boards on the internet and you will see alot of these problems with the same make and model vehicle. Also the egr valve problem where the vehicle clogs with carbon build up causing the check engine light to illuminate intermittenly and the vehicle stalls out. The problems happen to enough of the same make and model vehicles that there should be a recall.

ABS instrument warning light is lit and the ABS system is not working. No pulsing during braking action and I believe that the vehicle is not stopping as quickly or with the same ability to control the vehicle that I had when the ABS system was working. Soft pedal has been encountered twice but not at any other time. There was a dot recall that I had the Isuzu dealer correct on 5-5-2003. They corrected the problem under the ABS recall, campaign number 021002000 dated 2002-Jun-03 with 47228 miles on the odometer. The problem seems to have returned, but braking is sporadic and intermittent. The warning light will occasionally go out but comes back on while driving. I have had the brakes inspected, all four brakes replaced, and new brake fluid installed all within the last two weeks. Nothing has changed with the vehicles braking behavior or the warning light being lit. I have contacted american Isuzu motors Inc. By phone on 6-27-06 and was told that they do not have any responsibility for the ABS problem since they did address and correct the problem on this vehicle on 5-5-2003. I think that the ABS problem is still an Isuzu ongoing problem especially after reading about this problem from other owners in various internet chat rooms as well as my own experience while driving the vehicle.

On dry sandy road, or slightly sloped road vehicle's ABS system turns on executing rapid pulses fast enough to not be effective causing extremely bad stopping distance. Car slows down very slowly. To correct the failure operator eliminated the ABS fuse to disable ABS. Brakes work fine now.

: the contact stated a recall letter was received November 2005. The dealership was alerted and explained the parts were not available. The contact attempted multiple times to set up an appointment with the dealership without success. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealership before the recall letter was received and the oxygen sensor was replaced however this did not correct the problem with the ABS intermittently engaging. On March 23, 2006 an accident occurred as a result of the antilock brakes. While driving around a curve on slick road conditions the ABS engaged causing the vehicle to hydroplane and hit a guardrail. No injuries were sustained as a result of the accident. The police were notified. The vehicle was driven away from the accident. The manufacturer was alerted however, refused to communicate with the contact and explained the insurance company needed to call them back.

I was involved in a rear end collision where I was at fault due to the brakes malfunctioning in my 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. The roads were wet and I encountered problems with the braking system, causing me to hit the van in front of me. I have since received a recall notice for this exact problem. I was forced to pay a $500 deductible when this was a known defect to the Isuzu Rodeo's. what can I do to recoup the out of pocket expense for this accident?
