While sitting static for a number of hours the fuel tank leaks fuel. This problem is on the 2010 4.2 liter engine Xf model. Every morning I noticed a small puddle of fuel under the passenger side near the rear tire. Additionally, when trying to start the vehicle the engine struggles to start (as if not getting enough fuel). After lifting the vehicle up fuel can be seen coming from the top of the tank.

Was driving down interstate and light came on saying coolant low, air conditioner was still blowing cold, but I turned off air, maybe 3 minutes later, loss acceleration power, black smoke billowing out of pipes and under hood and light came on saying low performance turn engine off. Immediately pulled car on side of highway. No warning car was running hot. Car was disabled would not start later and computer reading still registered cool. Gas was smelling all though the car and proceeded to leak from under car after towed away. At the dealership, the car had gas leaking under it on the ground when I went to retrieve items out of car. Dealership said it would cost 36,000. Plus to fix. Car is still sitting at dealership with no solution. I felt we were fortunate to get out of car alive because I felt it could have exploded. Dealership says it was water pump, but engine was never torn down to determine that.

Pulling out of a parking lot into oncoming traffic, car was driving fine then all of a sudden it snapped into restricted performance mode, slowed my car down to 15mph on a busy street, and almost got hit by other cars due to my sudden decline in speed. Took the car back to the dealership for assessment and their recommendation is to replace the engine for $32,000. I bought the car for $26,000 in January 2014 from galpin Honda in mission hills and I currently owe $24,000 on it. I just don't see how this could be right.
