I have been driving my Kia Forte SX for 5 years. Bought it new from the dealership and have used it for work and leisure. My warranty expired at 100KM. I was driving it and started hearing a loud knocking sound when I accelerated on the highway, and after I pulled over the sound continued. I was worried so I took it to my mechanic. He informed me that Kia is having major engine issues with certain year of models which mine falls under.
I later researched that there is in fact a class action lawsuit against Kia and their defective engines. There is also a forums and facebook groups dedicated to Kia engine problems. The noise is coming from the pistons, it's moving around the cylinder too much and that causes it to flutter. It's called it piston slap. I have contacted Kia and they say that they can't do anything because it's out of warranty. This is something that they made and is defective but they won't do anything about.
