Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16V389000 (latches/locks/linkages) and 16V389000 (latches/locks/linkages); however, the parts for the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. While driving approximately 55 mph, the hood of the vehicle suddenly opened and smashed the windshield. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the windshield and the hood needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 163,000. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The failure mileage was 268,000.

The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that she must have left the hood open in order for the failure to occur. The hood was replaced by the dealer. The failure and current mileages were 105,000.
