This is the second visit to the dealership of three for the car horn going off for no reason. The dealership checked the door latches and the hatch and found no problem. Again they state no alarm, either aftermarket or factory is on the car. Again why is the horn going off and timing itself out and why am I gettin an eviction notice for excessive noise? The service department disconnected the latch for the rear hatch. This was done in an attempt to rule out the hatch latch as the problem.

When I went to pick the car up, I was advised that they disconnected the rear hatch latch to rule it out as the cause of the horn going off. Since I had a broken back and I broke one of the rods in my back in two places, I told the service advisor that they couldn't leave the hatch latch disconnected as I would not be able to open the hatch and put my walker in it. She disagreed. I told her to check with service. She did and they confirmed my conclusion.

I asked that as a special needs request they just replace the rear latch rather than disconnect it for two weeks as I was concerned that I could cause the spinal break to extend and tear my spinal cord trying to get my walker in through the rear door. The supervisor granted my request and the part was ordered. The service dept. opened a special case with Kia to try to troubleshoot my car's problem on the first visit.

I received a phone call from Kia requesting information on the ongoing problem. I answered all their questions and they were supposed to get back to me. To this day I have not heard from them. I don't have the paperwork from the last visit in which Kia installed the new rear hatch latch. It was approximately five days from this visit. The rear hatch latch was installed and so far I have not had any more false alarms with the horn and I have not been evicted. Don't you love a happy ending?

I really like my Kia and I only bought it because of my back injuries. I had a 2008 Escape but it was too high to get into safely so I had to sell it and find a car that was neither too high or too low. The Soul is the perfect height and load floor height. It has a high door opening which is important since I'm over six foot and I have fusions and rods in my neck and back, I am unable to bend much.

It really is a great all around car that is great on gas and still has some pep. It's fun to drive and has good crash test ratings and it looks cool. I talked my friend into buying a 2019 Soul and she loves it as well.

Update from Mar 18, 2019: It seems as though my random horn sounding has ended. I took the Soul back to Peoria Kia and they disconnected my hatch's electromagnetic latch to see if it was causing the problem. Since I need to use a walker and had a broken back I told them I would be unable to open the hatch and put my walker in the car. Due to the special circumstances I asked that they replace the latch rather than keep it disconnected for the two week period that they had planned. They agreed, ordered the part and installed it about one week later. I super glued my panic button on my key just to rule out the key as well. The horn hasn't gone off since. I was getting desperate as my apartment gave me an eviction notice if the car horn went off again within 10 days they would enforce it.
