My 2016 sportage started drinking oil at 115k and the engine blew at 135k. Kia said I was eligible for a engine replacement but because I didn't do my recalls I wasn't eligible. However as second owner I never got a recall. After research I found out it is there GDI engines. Don't buy a Kia or Hyundai unless you are in the show room every 5 years or less!

Sportage 2.0ll

Riding down a busy road, going 45 mph and saw the battery light, engine light and I believe some other lights. I was able to pull over out of traffic, and after that the car would not start, so I had the car towed to a Kia dealership. After a week, I was told my engine seized and I need a new engine, costing a little over 7 grand which I don't have, and then they told me my car has a recall but Kia will not honor it because I did not have a knock sensor installed (a recall) which I did not know about.

After speaking to the dealership I bought the car from in 2018 (I'm not the original owner), in 2018 when the car was bought dealerships did not have to check for recalls which on 2019 that became a law, and unfortunately for me warranty just expired, so at this point I need a car to get back and forth to work, so I had to rent a rental car from May until September, which totaled 6500 as well as paying a car note and insurance ever since. Even today 3/2022, my husband was able to get me another car to drive which he is paying the note on. I have tried time and time again to get reimbursed for something anything to help with these financial struggle and have not received any help.

Hopefully this reaches someone that may have had the same thing happen and have Kia pay for their mishap.
