I live in Springfield, Illinois and had to take my grandson to the airport in St. Louis, Mo. about 98 mile away and used my cruise control at 72mph on the highway. I made it to the airport alright, but on the way back I did the same but I stop at a rest stop about 20 mile outside of Missouri on I-55 in Illinois about a 15 minute stop and got back on the highway and put my car in cruise again about 70 or 71 mph. About 20 minutes in the drive the cruise control shut off by itself and the car started decelerating as the car started slowing down. I put my foot on the gas but the car would not go over 60 mph and I had to drive back home at that speed.
If I try to go faster the engine would start knocking and the engine act like it wanted to shut off. I never been that scared about being stranded on the road in my life. I am 73 years old and can't walk over a city block without losing my breath - I have COPD, Diabetes, and plates in my right ankle and also have a bad back. I usually walk with a cane.
I made it back to Springfield, Illinois and the next day took it to the dealer that I bought it from and they directed me to take it Green Kia which I had to leave it. About two weeks later Green Kia called me and told me I didn't have to use my extended warranty because there was a re-call on these Kia engines but I have to leave my car there 3 months until they get the new engine in. I questioned if they had a loaner I could use so I didn't have to rent a car but they said because of the high volume of car being recalled they could not help me. I have had to rent a car for over three weeks and still renting until I get another car. It has been rough on me and my 74 year old wife.
