The ignition coil issue was a known problem for Lincoln more so on the 3.9L V8 prompting a recall. However the recall was never extended to the 3.0L V6 that uses the same coils. The Lincoln dealer wanted over $900 to replace all the coils. The problem with the 6cyl. is that the three on bank two are under the intake manifold requiring that it has to be removed in order to get to the plugs and coils! Added expense,
I got it fixed for less than half that! Apparently the boots allow moisture to get trapped causing of short circuit and eventual failure of the coils. Lincoln rep was of no help. He could offer a reason why the recall was not extended to the V6.
