This is concerning a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero limited. My wife and daughter were headed down our driveway when the brakes failed. My wife started pumping the brakes and was finally able to stop the car, but, not before the front end was already out in the road. Had there been a car coming, it would have resulted in a crash. NHTSA action number RQ06007 and recall number 01V-254 explain the exact symptoms that my car has; abnormal noise from the left side of the dash when the brakes are applied, and a delayed first time brake boost after the vehicle has been park for a period of time. When I left in the car the next day, I had to pump the brakes several times to get it to stop. Mitsibushi motors, and the dealer, tell me my car is not covered under the recall. Why? it has the exact same symptoms and could have resulted in a crash.
