On sat, May 9, I drove my vehicle to work and parked in the business parking lot, turned off the ignition, left the vehicle to go inside and check on my employees.. approximately 10 minutes later a co-worker notified me that smoke was coming from my vehicle. Upon opening the hood I noticed a fire burning from the manifold into the engine cover and spark plug wires. Several attempts were made to extinguish the fire and get my dog out of the vehicle. The fire was eventually extinguished with a fire extinguisher. There was a strong oil smell. The incident was observed by co-workers and captured by security cameras. Oil was leaking from valve cover and had ignited on the manifold and burned various plastic parts of the engine components. The vehicle was able to start and, accept for a hesitation in the engine, was drivable. Contacted dealer, was told that issue was part of a recall. Was told car would have to be held for 2-3 weeks for an assessment of cause before the minor repairs would be made. When I explained that my work requires driving, the dealers would not provide me with any type of vehicle. I was told I could take my car, even though it is recalled, without any of the repairs being made to make it safe from catching fire again.

1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue-oil leak -I went out to start my car last winter and when I started the car I heard a loud pop and smoke started billowing out of the engine I was 7 months pregnant at the time and called the fire department but by the time they arrived at the house the engine fire was out of control and the car was totaled. I would like compensation for the damages since my car insurance did not cover the fire.

The contact owns a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue. While driving 25 mph, the rpms would drop and all the instrument panel gauges would dim. In addition, the vehicle would occasionally stall unexpectedly. The vehicle would restart immediately, but there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. The contact noticed that the rpms would increase and the engine sounded as if it were revving. During this time, the vehicle would lunge forward. The vehicle was inspected, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The spark plugs have been changed along with other remedies, but the failure still persists. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 135,000 and failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

Car uses too much oil. Told by service center that vehicle should not be burning oil. However vehicle uses 6 quarts verses 5 quarts and 500 miles later, low oil indicator comes on. Service center can not explain the problem or give any insight for the excess oil used every time service is required. Also headlights cut out while driving.

1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue - this car has been nothing but trouble since the first day I purchased it. The rack and pinion steering had to be replaced, this did not correct the problem with loose steering, along the car losing power steering and stalling. I have been driving on the interstate at 50-60 miles an hour, the car will cut off on you. I make a habit to drive in the right lane, so that I can pull over and stall out on the side of the road. I try and stay off the interstate because if a truck or bad driver is behind me that could really cause problems (accident/death). I have had major mechanical repairs done to this car, nothing helps. I can not afford to at this moment get another car but as soon as I am able I am going to get rid of it. General Motors should not have been allow to sell this type of dangerous product to the public. These incidents are still going on problem. The latest being yesterday, I suddenly lost my power steering while driving.
