I returned to the van after grocery shopping, got in and buckled my seat belt. I turned on the ignition and placed the van in reverse to back out of the handicap parking spot closest to the store. Before I could react, the engine began to race at high speed sending me and the van backwards! I was trying to reach for the key to turn off the engine while turning in a circle twice knocking down a tree and coming to a stop when the rear of the van hit the brick building. I was then able to turn off the engine. No earlier problem like this has ever happened but there have been repeated attempts to repair our cruise control which never worked during the time we've owned the van. The van has yet to be checked by the insurance company.
