I bought this car used 4 months ago. Right away the AC went and cost several hundred to fix...still have one stage left to go. Then the really irritating whining noise started when I shift gears or when clutch is depressed. If I'm sitting at a light with the clutch depressed, the high pitched, hollow sounding whine starts. It continues during clutching and shifting all the way through 4th gear, and then seems to taper off in 5th. When I'm rolling along there's no noise at all. What is this? One mechanic suggested it is the transmission bearings. A couple of others said they had NO IDEA. Does anybody know? I'd really appreciate any advice.
