The "service air bag" indicator in the driver information center came on during the normal course of driving and has remained on constantly since that time, approximately 1 - 1.5 yrs. This was not related to any accident. Diagnosis using on obd scan tool was completed by a reputable local mechanic, who indicated that the passenger side seat sensor is defective and needs to be replaced. This appears to be a major safety concern since, at a minimum, the passenger side air bag has been compromised and may not deploy in the event of a crash due to this faulty seat sensor. Further research completed by myself indicates this faulty passenger seat sensor may be a common problem in the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn sky. This is a relatively expensive repair ($800+) by an authorized dealer, and the associated repair costs should not be the responsibility of the consumer to correct this safety issue.

Service air bag in dic turned on and airbag light indicator for passenger seat turned off while the auto was zero (0) speed, driver's seat and passenger's seat were both occupied. This is a despicable design error as well as a real world operational flaw, a potentially fatal safety issue that thousands of Solstice owners are experiencing and that thousands more will experience. How many fatalities must the american public endure before GM accepts full responsibility and finally, however reluctantly, cowardly, immorally, and deceitfully, correct this quintessentially death trap vehicle?

Airbag service required dtc. Problem is with the pps system in the passenger seat. Problem has been widely reported for these cars, as well as, other GM products. This condition effectively renders the airbag protection of the passenger sear inoperative even if the seat is occupied. GM is aware the problem and their dealers want approximately between $800 and $1,000 to replace the failed seat components. They fail because the design is faulty in that the sensor pad sensor conductive pathways suffer breakage. The forum blog for owners with this problem is an excellent source, including pictures of the component failure and poor design, that can be found at www.solsticeforum.com/forum/F12/passenger-airbag-sensor-75353/.

In January 2014..my passenger airbag light came on the dic saying to service airbag"?? I have very few passengers from time to time..maybe three a month..none are heavy enough as to plop down on seat with enough weight to inflict damage on whatever the problem may be!!! also, when I clean the car, I make certain as to not kneel or put any sort of weight as to break the circuit in which I've been reading about all the many others!!! has anybody given any thought that maybe it's a default?? it happens so very often with many of the other automobiles...so what makes our car any different??" it happens!!! as my word, I did nothing in any way, shape or form to damage it!!!! I love my Solstice, but if nothing is done about this, I, my family, friends and whoever else I may inform will never do business with GM again..sorry, but this just isn't right...safety!!!lol

2008 Pontiac Solstice. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch, air bag and check engine light problems. The consumer had to replaced the ignition switch, the air bags did not work, the check engine light illuminated, and the radio would come on and go off by itself. The dealer cleared the computer for the engine light, and informed the consumer there was nothing wrong. However, after driving less than 10 miles, the check engine light illuminated again.

I took my 2008 Solstice out of storage and was going down the road and got a message on the dic display saying the airbags needed service. I thought it was odd with only 25000 miles and being driven about 4 months out of the year. I looked it up on line and found it to be a common problem with the Solstice. After about 10 calls to Pontiac they agreed to have the dealer diagnose it and the dealer said the sir coil was defective and needed to be replaced at a cost of $212. My warranty has run out do to time and not the amount of miles. I have since been going back and forth with Pontiac about them paying for the repair, however they always call back and leave a message at a time they know I'm at work. I paid over $30,000 for this car brand new and have had it dealer serviced regularly and feel Pontiac should be held accountable for this problem. I car has now been sitting in the dealership torn apart for a week waiting for Pontiac to give them the okay to fix it, this is criminal.

The air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortly after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $1000), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. I believe this should be a recall, and the dealer should have to cover the costs not the car owners. This seems so much like consumer fraud to me. A thousand dollar part going out at only 35K miles that is an incredible nuisance.

There seems to be an issue with the sensor that determines whether there is a passenger in the passenger seat. Currently, the light signal that indicates whether the air bags are on or off when there is a passenger is in the vehicle shows the air bags off with a passenger present. I would assume that a sensor determines when a passenger is in the seat. As a result, if there was an impact, the air bag for the passenger seat would not deploy. This appears to be very dangerous and would cost a life if the impact was severe.
