Starting back on April 30, 2016 I brought my WRX in for a check engine light. Much like others stated with the exception being a CVT I don't get the rpm jumps while in neutral. Here is list of what happens. 1. Harder to start in the morning or after sitting for 4 hour or more 2. Rough Idle 3. Check engine light comes on. Each time I have brought my car back in they have replace the O2 sensor 4 times, reprogrammed the ECU, replaced the mass flow and the last time was a O2 relay. It started back in May and after the dealership worked on the car, a few of the times I did not make it 2 mile before the check engine light came on. Other time weeks would go by, but each time the repair something you could turn the key and it would start right up. Then the list above starts with a harder to start til the check engine light comes back on. I have been in contact with Subaru or America and they have been assisting the dealership. Can't really fault my dealership, each time they have place me in a loaner and I believe they have done everything they can. To give other an idea of my visits and just how much of a pain in the ass this has become. 18748 - 04/30/2016 - Check Engine Light - O2 19323 - 05/17/2016 - Check Engine Light - O2 19325 - 05/17/2016 - Check Engine Light - O2 - no this is not a duplicate, 2 miles and back 20134 - 06/03/2016 - Check Engine Light - Reprogram ECU and clean O2 20145 - 06/03/2016 - Check Engine Light - O2 - yes 11 miles same day back 20452 - 06/08/2016 - Check Engine Light - O2 and Battery - too many hard starts and the battery had it 20536 - 06/09/2016 - Check Engine Light - Mass Flow and Intake Temp Sensor 21329 - 06/28/2016 - Check Engine Light - O2 Relay - Dealership had vehicle for ten days * - 07/15/2015 - Check Engine Light - Currently at the dealership Each time the same code, running rich and hard starting.

After reporting this to SOA they have been assisting the dealership to resolve but you may understand after seeing my list of visit (documented on My Subaru) I have been asking what is the next step. Who wants to drive a day to a week or two just to have to go back and have the dealership doing something else. I have ask SOA to look into the next step which should be moving out of this vehicle and into another.

Foot Note: Subaru has changed the intake of the late model 2016 and 2017 Subaru WRX to handle the intake better. If what I read is correct, the intake has gone back to metal. If Subaru production made a change from composite back to metal and they currently have a recall on late 2015 and early 2016. I think that kinda points in one direction very quickly.

WRX 2.0L Turbo

  • Manual transmission
  • 12,500 miles

After driving 15 minutes at highway speeds, my check engine light came on after exiting the highway. Previously I brought the car in for a rough idle that couldn't be diagnosed. On one occasion the car stalled at a light in neutral. The dealership said the code called for a slow cam actuator but on the paperwork it said they replaced the cam sensor. The light and extreme rough idle went away but now theres a gentle vibration at idle where the RPMs dip as the car hunts for a proper idle.
