Fuel Gauge / Purge Valve & Door Handle Class Action Defect Investigations by McCuneWright LLP

McCuneWright is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of 2012-14 Ford Focus owners and lessees pertaining to two potential defects.

First, these models may experience irregular fuel gauge readings, a jerking when driving and even stalling. These symptoms may be related to a defective purge valve resulting in fueling issues to the engine. Some individuals have reported needing to replace the fuel tank, fuel pump and purge valve at a cost of over $2,000. Despite Ford's knowledge of this common issue, many individuals have been forced to pay out of pocket for this repair.

Second, these models may also contain a defect predisposing the door latches to break, resulting in the passenger doors to unexpectedly open while the vehicles are being operated. Focus owners have alleged that the door(s) failed to latch, with several reports indicating that the "door ajar" warning light on the dash appeared. Some drivers allege that the door opened while the vehicle was being driven. Complainants with a failed door latch indicate that in some cases the door had to be physically tied down to keep shut while others stopped driving the vehicle out of fear of the door opening while driving. This problem may result in safety issues and expensive repairs to fix the door latch mechanism.

If you have experienced any of these problems with your Ford Focus, please contact us to discuss further by filling out the form to the right.
