Ford Recalls 131,000 Vehicles, Mostly SUVs For Fire Risk
Ford orders three recalls to fix loose gas tanks, along with seat belt and trailer brake problems.

— Ford is recalling about 131,000 vehicles in three recalls, the majority to fix SUVs at risk of fires from gas tank leaks.

Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX

Nearly 129,000 model year 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs are called back to dealers due to corrosion under the brackets where the gas tanks are attached to the vehicles. However, the recall applies only to specific states and areas where road salt is typically used.

Ford says the recalled SUVs are currently registered or were originally sold in the following areas:

Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

The loose gas tank can leak and cause fuel odors and possible fires if the fuel leaks onto an ignition source. However, Ford says it's not aware of any accidents, fires or injuries related to the rusted brackets.

The recalled 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs were built September 11, 2008, through July 1, 2010. Most (110,636) of the SUVs are in the U.S., and another 18,187 are in Canada.

Ford dealers will repair or replace the gas tank, based on its condition upon inspection.

Ford Mustang

Brand new 2016 Ford Mustangs have seat belt parts that might have been damaged during shipping.

The 1,900 cars were possibly damaged during shipping from the supplier before installation in the Mustangs. If the parts are damaged, the seat belts may violate federal safety regulations concerning child restraint anchor systems.

Ford says it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the seat belts that were installed September 26 through October 1, 2015.

Ford dealers will replace both the front and rear seat belt assemblies, the rear seat belt buckle assemblies and the child tethers.

2016 Ford E-Series Trucks

Only 72 trucks need repaired, all due to problems with the trailer brakes. Affected are 2016 Ford E-Series Cutaway and Chassis Cab trucks with trailer brakes that don't engage when the driver hits the brake pedal.

As imagined, this defect could cause all manner of problems, but Ford says it doesn't know of any accidents or injuries related to the trailer brakes.

The recalled trucks were manufactured in Ohio from November 3, 2014, through September 1, 2015.

Ford says its dealers will update the powertrain control module to fix the trailer brake problems.
