Toyota Sienna Recalled By Two Independent Toyota Distributors
Toyota Sienna minivan occupants can get beat up by plastic trim when the side curtain airbags deploy

— Two independent Toyota distributors have announced recalls of 650 model year 2015 Toyota Sienna minivans because a piece of trim could smack someone in an accident.

Gulf States Toyota says it's recalling 387 minivans and Southeast Toyota Distributors says 262 Sienna minivans need repairs to trim related to the entertainment system installation. The minivans are equipped with non-Toyota overhead entertainment accessories that use a clip to secure the trim panel.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the clip can become damaged during installation of the entertainment system and the trim panel can detach if the side curtain airbag deploys. While the airbag is trying to protect you in a crash, the dislodged trim panel could do serious damage to an occupant.

Gulf States Toyota says its recalled 2015 Toyota Sienna minivans were manufactured January 23, 2015, to April 13, 2015.

The recalled Sienna minivans sold by Southeast Toyota Distributors were built September 1, 2014, to April 13, 2015.

Gulf States Toyota should begin its recall on June 8, 2015, when its dealers will replace the clip that secures the trim panel. If you have one of the recalled 2015 Toyota Siennas, you can call 800-444-1074 if you have questions. Please refer to recall number 15R1.

The Southeast Toyota Distributors recall is expected to begin June 15, 2015. Dealers will replace the trim panel securing clip. Owners with questions should call 866-405-4226 and refer to recall number SET15B.
