Chrysler Recalls Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos
FCA recalls 34,600 SUVs after gas leaks are found in the 3.6-liter V6 engines.

— Fiat Chrysler (FCA US) is recalling more than 34,600 model year 2016 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs because assembly problems can lead to fuel leaks and fires.

The problem was originally discovered in April 2016 when damage occurred to a fuel rail crossover tube on a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Engineers found 21 engines with damage to the crossover tubes out of 20,000 engines that were inspected.

The investigation continued through September when two damaged samples leaked during a pressure pulsation test. The automaker believes only 30 of the SUVs in the U.S. are at risk of gas leaks, but it will take a recall of 30,180 vehicles in the country to find the 30.

The 2016 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs were manufactured February 10, 2016, to April 28, 2016, and all the SUVs are equipped with 3.6-liter engines built at the Saltillo engine plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico.

FCA says 30,183 of the 2016 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs are in the U.S., with an additional 2,534 in Canada, 489 in Mexico and 1,427 outside North America. The automaker says no complaints, accidents, injuries or warranty claims have been filed due to the problem.

The recall should begin December 19, 2016, when dealers will inspect the engine assemblies for damage to the fuel rail crossover tubes, replacing them as necessary.

Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee owners may contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403 and use recall number S85.
