Nissan recalls Takata passenger-side airbag inflators in seven models.

— Nissan is recalling more than 402,000 vehicles as part of a recall of 35-40 million Takata airbags at risk of exploding. As other automakers have confirmed, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has separated areas of the country by "zones" A, B and C.

Nissan says the 2005-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45, 2003-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2006-2010 Infiniti M35 and M45 and 2007-2011 Nissan Versa vehicles are recalled if originally sold or ever registered in zone A:

Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan) and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Nissan further says unless included in "zone A" above, the automaker is recalling the 2005-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45, 2003-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2006-2008 Infiniti M35 and M45 and 2007-2008 Nissan Versa vehicles if originally sold or ever registered in zone B:

Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Lastly, unless included in "zone A" or "zone B" above, Nissan is recalling 2003-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35 vehicles originally sold or registered in "zone C" areas.

Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Nissan says the passenger airbag inflators will be replaced in the vehicles, but the automaker says it doesn't have the necessary parts. Nissan will mail an initial letter to owners by the end of July 2016 and then send a second notice when repair parts are available.
