— Subaru is recalling 18,200 WRX sports cars and Forester 2.0XT SUVs at risk of engine stall. The 2015-2016 Subaru WRX and Forester 2.0XT have turbocharger air intake ducts that may crack and cause problems with engine performance while driving.
Subaru first learn of an incident in Australia where a WRX engine stalled in 2015. An internal investigation was opened that saw the automaker examining the affected parts from the car. Engineers found a cracked turbocharged air intake duct caused by the use of incorrect material during parts production.
The affected part, manufactured by DaikyoNishikawa Corporation of Japan, has a specific lot number that will be used to determine if the intake duct was made with the wrong material.
The engine turbocharger air intake duct will be replaced if the lot number matches the affected parts. Other than that, no replacement will be necessary.
Symptoms of a cracked turbocharger air intake duct includes the engine idling rough, reduced engine power and finally engine stall while driving.
The recalled 2015-2016 WRX cars were manufactured April 10, 2015, to October 21, 2015, and the Forester 2.0XT SUVs were built April 10, 2015, to October 20, 2015.
Subaru doesn't know when the recall will begin, but owners of the 2015-2016 Subaru WRX and Forester 2.0XT can call the automaker at 800-782-2783 and use recall number WTA-62.
