Volvo Recalls XC90 For Sensitive Sunroof Switch
Volvo recalls 30,000 XC90 SUVs with sunroof switches that can accidentally close sunroofs.

— Volvo is recalling almost 30,000 model year 2016 XC90 SUVs because the sunroofs can close when they shouldn't. Volvo hasn't released many details about the recall, but it's known the problem is with the switch on the overhead console.

The automaker says the switch wasn't recessed enough to prevent the switch from accidentally being touched. A small unintentional touch against the switch can cause the sunroof to immediately close, even if part of a body is sticking out the sunroof.

The 2016 Volvo XC90 SUVs were built January 27, 2015, to April 23, 2016.

The recall should begin June 20, 2016. Volvo dealers say the sunroof switch problem can be fixed by a software upgrade that disables the auto-close function.

Volvo XC90 owners may contact Volvo at 800-458-1552 and ask about recall number R89702.

Volvo has company with its sensitive sunroof switch issue, as can be attested to by GM and its recalled Chevy Malibu cars, in addition to the Cadillac ATS that was recalled twice to fix sunroof switch problems.

CarComplaints.com has owner-reported complaints about the Volvo XC90 and many other Volvo vehicles.
