Mazda Recalls 94,000 Vehicles to Fix Takata Airbags
Mazda says Takata airbag inflators used in Mazda vehicles are dangerous and will be replaced.

— Mazda says Takata airbags have forced additional recalls of nearly 94,000 vehicles to replace passenger-side airbag inflators at risk of exploding in a crash, even a minor fender-bender. Mazda ordered three recalls where the recalled vehicles are separated by "Zones," a common theme among Takata airbag recalls.

Mazda B-Series Trucks

Mazda says 696 model year 2009 Mazda B-Series trucks need their passenger frontal airbag inflators replaced, but only if the trucks were sold or ever registered in the following "Zone B" areas:

Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

More B-Series trucks are recalled, this time from model years 2007-2008 and originally sold or ever registered in these states:

Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Mazda says the recall will begin March 7, 2016, so dealers can replace the front passenger airbag inflators. B-Series truck owners with questions should call 800-222-5500 and ask about recall number 0817A.

Mazda CX-7, CX-9, Mazda6

More than 85,000 model year Mazda CX-7, CX-9 and Mazda6 vehicles are recalled to replace Takata airbag inflators, but the recalls are for certain areas only.

The 2012 Mazda CX-7, CX-9 and Mazda6 are recalled if they were sold or ever registered in Zone A locations:

Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan) and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Additionally, unless included in Zone A above, Mazda is recalling certain 2009 CX-7, CX-9 and Mazda6 vehicles sold, or ever registered in these Zone B states:

Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Then Mazda is also recalling 2007-2008 CX-7 and CX-9 vehicles originally sold or registered in these states:

Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

This recall should begin March 7, 2017, when dealers will start replacing the front passenger Takata airbag inflators. Until then, owners may call Mazda at 800-222-5500 and use recall number 0717A.

But that's not all, as another 8,000 Mazda vehicles are recalled in different zones. Recalled are 2009 Mazda RX-8 cars originally sold or ever registered in the following states:

Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Separately, Mazda is recalling 2005-2006 MPV and 2005-2008 RX-8 vehicles originally sold or ever registered in the following states:

Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The recall is expected to begin March 7, 2017, but until then owners can call 800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 0617A.
