The front passenger seatbelt sensor malfunctions and sets off the warning sound as if someone is siting in the seat when nobody or nothing is in the seat. This may cause airbag malfunctions or have it not deploy. This has been happening since the first day I bought the car several weeks ago. The issue is constant while I'm driving.

On 2/5/2016, BMW issued a recall for the driver's front air bag (recall campaign no. 16V-071). I wasn't even notified about the recall! I happened to see this open recall in July 2017 after I received a recall for the rear driveshaft constant velocity joint (recall campaign no. 17V-067). It took almost 2 years for the driver's air bag recall to be fixed (it was finally made available to me in December 2017). Within a few months of getting the driver's side fixed, the passenger side air bag seat sensor malfunction light came on while I was driving the vehicle! I've spoken to BMW's service department & authorized BMW mechanics regarding the air bag sensor mat failing & was told it was a very common problem. That it was so common, the waiting list to replace/fix the malfunction will take 1-2 years (or longer). This malfunction has been recalled on previous BMW models'the recall needs to be issued on 2011 BMW's as it is still a major safety issue!

Immediately after replacing the recall for the driver's side airbag, the light warning came on for the passenger side airbag. This happened while my vehicle was in motion after taking in my car for maintenance and the original recall.

I have a passenger restraint system fault affecting airbag, belt tensioner. My car has sport seats that have been recalled in a previous campaign due to the seat mat sensor failure. My car was not included in the recall. BMW quoted me a replacement seat mat using the same recalled product from 2013 and 2006. My car currently has a seat belt malfunction code and the seat mat sensor is defective. This went defective at 84,000 miles on the car. As a result, the airbags will not deploy in a crash because the seat does not detect an occupant with the seat belt malfunction!

Takata recall I have contacted two BMW retailers in my area asking to schedule an appointment to have my airbags replaced and both responses were "we don't have the part but will order it and call you back when ready to schedule the replacement". I haven't heard back from either and I contacted BMW mountain view over 9 months ago and BMW peter pan over 4 months ago. I am deeply concerned for the safety of me and my family since there is a known defect in the airbag that could be deployed in the case of an accident. I hope this never happens but the fact there is a known threat in my car which could be life threatening at any moment and there is no urgency to resolve this issue from BMW or the airbag manufacturer is very disappointing.

The contact owns a 2011 BMW 335I. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact's vehicle collided into a tree without warning. The air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The contact declined assistance from the emt, but went to an urgent care. Facility for cuts to the right hand, fracture to the right pinky finger, a concussion, an unknown partially deflated lung, and inconclusive X-rays. The vehicle was towed by the insurance company to an auto body collision center to assess the damage. It had not been determined if the vehicle was destroyed. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

Takata. Resolution by closest BMW dealer, BMW of bellevue, Washington, is indicating a May 2018 date for replacement. I feel that this is an inordinately extended time on top of the already long time for the replacement product.

Takata recall - I made an appointment with my dealer "East bay BMW" to get the airbags replaced. I received a follow-up call 2 days later informing me that they airbags are not available yet.
