BMW is not taking social responsibility for the products they build. Tail lights that not only burn out prematurely, but burn, melt the housing, and cause burns to the light assembly. Then, the assembly costs $145 each to replace! Are you kidding me BMW? Your engineers are loathsome, unimaginative, and lazy. This problem is well documented and yet you still refuse to issue a recall? Does BMW need to be “caught” by the US National Transportation Safety Admin to change? Apparently, BMW is more closely related to VW that I understood.

tail light housing melted tail light housing melted

2008 X5 melted away the housing for the passenger side rear turn signal, destroying the bulb housing and receptacle for the light. Also the back-up light bulb housing was beginning to melt. I replaced the harness that includes both bulb housings but am sure these will melt as well. Very close to a fire, no fuses were tripped. How long before my car catches fire? Any ideas? I don't care about buying a new rear passenger side light housing if I knew that would solve the problem. Something is allowing that bulb and housing to get very hot. BMW should address this, probably waiting for someone to die first, that might catch their attention.
