I bought my Avalanche new and have kept it regularly serviced. It is burning 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. What can I do?

Avalanche LS 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,230 miles

2013 Chevy Avalanche... The GOD of all trucks (my dream, the vehicle that I will be buried in), and I noticed a warning "Low Oil Pressure Stop Driving Vehicle Now". There were no oil leaks or smoke from the tail pipe. All new to me. I checked the oil level, it was 4 quarts low! With no indication that there was a problem on the instrument cluster. I called my local dealer and took the vehicle in. A day later, got a call... "How far would you like to go with this?" I was perplexed... this was my baby! I said give me a day.

I borrowed money from my 401K plan (yes, the repair amount was $7,973.43) for a re-manufactured engine. The engine only had 83,230 Miles. To make matters worse, I drive a company car for a living and only use my truck on the weekends. I brought it brand new, off the lot. The options given to me were: 1. A rebuilt engine for 10K or 2. A re-manufactured engine for 8K.

I didn't want to let my truck go as it's still pristine and I didn't want to finance another vehicle. I researched to find that there's a way to override the engine, disabling the Active Fuel Management going forward. But as of right now, i'm out of $7,973.43 for a re-manufactured engine at only 83230 miles. My Suzuki Vitara 4 Cyl. had 325,000 miles at trade-in with the original trans and engine! GM isn't offering any rebate or support for this failed technology. I'm thankful to have found this site to vent and hopefully get some financial repair from it. I'm finding out that quite a few people have experienced this as well. Please Help.
