Basically, the seats are cheaply made! I had a 1999 Cavalier and the seats were sturdy/solid. Yes, I'm a 210 lb man, but I rode in my used/purchased 1999 Cavalier for 7 years until I finally had to bite the bullet and upgrade. I bought the 2003, thinking newer is more reliable and 'better', but I should've gotten the 1999 model again.
The used 2003 Cavalier had 122,000km on it (quite low), but needed some work. However, the driver chair had springs loose inside that jabbed me in the upper back when I leaned back. Also, the springs pushed and cut a hole into the rear of the seat, so my kids wondered why there is a piece of metal sticking out at them in the back seat.
Totally uncomfortable, I invested in a backrest to cover up the metal that was stabbing me...this might sound like a lame 'issue', but the seats are not as solid as they were in the older Cavalier...
