CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

Imagine sitting in a truck in the dead of winter with your heat on and the inside never warms up.

The heat and AC aren't working right. I really like this vehicle but I've only had it foe 4 weeks, when I asked my friend who has the same Equinox(2006) she said she had the same problem and got it fix it to the dealership service 9 hours to complete the job.

Equinox is a horrible vehicle......the interior fell apart after a year....chair, sun visor...cover to mirror on sun visor....

but the problem with the heat was just mnd boggling....and nor worth the trouble i went thru trying to get accuracy on why a 2006 would be having such problem.....ill never by an American car again and surely NEVER EVER a GM/Chevrolet

blower quit working 2 months ago. i had to buy the entire heater/ac part. new was about $300 so I searched the internet for weeks. i finally found a used one for $70. i installed it and it worked for 3 days. blower quit working again last night. i will never buy another gm product again. i have had 3 over the past 10 years. all had many problems mostly due to the electrical system or ac. i hope GM continues to post poor earning reports until the finally go out of business. The warranty just ran out as is the case in the other GM vehicles I have had problems with.

After traveling for at least 45 minutes, the AC shuts completely off for several seconds to minutes and then starts back up. Dealer as of yet can not duplicate the problem.
